Sharps Medical Waste Services is seeking an Accountant to join our growing Accounting & Finance team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, improving processes, and taking ownership of key accounting activities. The Accountant will support month-end close, account reconciliations, financial analysis, audits, and other core accounting functions across our multi-location organization. This position will also have the opportunity to identify process improvements, introduce new efficiencies, and collaborate across the business to support accurate financial reporting and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Month-End Support
- Prepare and record month-end journal entries, including accruals, payroll, fixed assets, and lease accounting under ASC 842
- Maintain the fixed asset roll-forward, including additions, disposals, and depreciation
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and perform detailed analysis of assigned accounts in accordance with the close calendar
- Manage the property tax accounting process, including coordination with third-party consultants
- Analyze location-level financial results and explain variances and fluctuations to management
- Account for rebate programs, including accrual estimates, tracking, and true-ups
- Perform bank matching in NetSuite and create monthly deposits using third-party vendor data
Audit & Compliance
- Assist with annual audits, including compilation of schedules and supporting work papers
Process Improvement & Special Projects
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and help implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude) to automate and streamline accounting processes
- Contribute to ad hoc projects and cross-functional initiatives that support operational and strategic goals
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.
- ERP experience.
- Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily direction while collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- NetSuite experience.
- Multi-location or multi-entity accounting experience.
- Experience with a private equity-backed company.
- Public accounting audit experience.
