JOB SUMMARY
The Meter Data Management (MDM) Functional Architect plays an essential delivery role, collaborating with multiple levels of client management and subject matter experts to develop clear specifications for business requirements and data-driven solutions. This role involves creating practical, implementable, and cost-effective designs that address client needs across the meter-to-cash landscape to modernize utilities. MDM Functional Architects play a key role in gathering requirements and delivering solutions closely aligned with the project scope, while ensuring successful implementation of scalable, cost-effective solutions that align with clients' short- and long-term goals.
EXPECTATIONS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Solution/Business Domain Duties
- Design, validate, and optimize usage processing, billing determinant generation, and integration touchpoints across the meter-to-cash lifecycle.
- Develop productized integration designs between Oracle MDM and C2M/CCS, ensuring alignment with industry-standard algorithms and usage processing flows.
- Configure and support Validation, Estimation, and Editing (VEE) processes, including rule design, thresholds, and exception handling.
- Design and support exception workflows for usage that fails VEE, ensuring accurate remediation, reprocessing, and downstream billing continuity.
- Develop creative, practical solutions to critical business problems across the meter-to-cash landscape.
- Analyze software requirements across multiple ERPs and domains, defining solution parameters and specifications.
- Stay current with product technologies and future industry trends to develop relevant solutions.
- Manage the functional scope of projects to reduce risks for clients and Origin.
- Collaborate with Origin and client teams to review multiple design options and ensure alignment with industry best practices.
- Manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with timelines and budgets.
Customer Focus
- Facilitate design workshops and client onboarding sessions, focusing on gathering and clarifying business requirements.
- Build strong client relationships by resolving issues within the project scope.
- Manage expectations to ensure alignment with goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Assess the business and technical impacts of proposed solutions.
- Proactively communicate with clients to resolve issues that could impact engagement success.
Sales and Business Development
- Supports account teams to develop potential solutions based on client ecosystems.
- Present additional Origin services to the account executive based on identified client challenges and future needs.
- Contribute to bids and proposals, ensuring alignment with Origin’s standards and strategic objectives.
- Present solutions alongside senior management to prospective clients, emphasizing practical implementation and project feasibility.
- Assess existing client challenges for opportunities for account executives to present clients with additional Origin service offerings, when appropriate.
Financial Accountability
- Monitor project scope to ensure any solutions presented to the client are within contractual obligations.
- Notify the Project Manager of the need for a change order as appropriate.
Mentoring Responsibilities
- Mentor junior team members and guide workstreams as part of larger projects.
- Focus on technical mentorship and project-specific skills development.
Skills
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.

- Thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

- Strong understanding of algorithms used to generate billing determinants sent from MDM to CC&B/C2M/CCS.
- Ability to design and support exception processes for usage that fails VEE.
- Detailed understanding of the Validation, Estimation, and Editing (VEE) process and related rule configuration.
Experience
- 8–10 years of hands-on Oracle MDM experience, including configuration, usage processing, and VEE rule design.
- At least 4 years of consulting experience with Oracle Utilities products (CC&B, C2M, or CCS), including proficiency in 75% of CC&B/C2M/CCS sub-modules.
- Strong understanding of meter-to-cash processes and experience transitioning from legacy systems to Oracle Utilities solutions.
- Experience designing productized integrations between Oracle MDM and C2M/CCS.
- Preferred experience integrating Oracle Utilities products with enterprise applications such as Customer Self Service and Field Work Management systems.
- Familiarity with design principles within the Oracle Utilities Application Framework.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technology field.
Certifications
- Oracle Certified MDM Professional strongly preferred.
Other Qualifications
- Must be available for at least 25% travel.
