As an IT Engineer II, you will work with a team of IT professionals supporting a next-generation collaboration capability in a secure, mission-critical environment. This high-visibility capability integrates modern commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software to support mission requirements across the Intelligence Community (IC).
You will support the implementation, security, integration, troubleshooting, and sustainment of enterprise IT capabilities across multiple security domains. Working with Government stakeholders, mission analysts, data owners, developers, and other technical teams, you will help translate requirements into reliable and supportable infrastructure and mission capabilities.
This position has a strong Linux engineering foundation with an emphasis on container infrastructure and modern enterprise technologies. You will administer and troubleshoot Red Hat Linux systems and Linux-based COTS applications while supporting the deployment, security, operation, and sustainment of containerized workloads.
The successful candidate will understand how the various layers of an enterprise environment work together—from hardware, virtualization, networking, and storage through Linux, container infrastructure, security, and applications. As capabilities move into production, you will support monitoring, performance optimization, incident resolution, sustainment, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline, with 12 years of relevant IT experience.
- A Master’s degree in a related discipline may substitute for 2 years of experience, reducing the requirement to 10 years of relevant IT experience.
- Four additional years of relevant IT experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree, for a total requirement of 16 years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree.
Required Technical Experience:
- Strong Red Hat Linux system administration experience.
- Experience with Linux security hardening, patching, OS upgrades, package management, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting containerized applications and container infrastructure in enterprise or production environments.
Working knowledge of container concepts and technologies including:
- Container images and registries
- Container deployment and lifecycle management
- Container networking
- Persistent storage
- Container security
- Resource management
- Troubleshooting and log analysis
- Experience troubleshooting enterprise infrastructure across Linux operating systems, virtualization, networking, storage, container platforms, and applications.
- Understanding of virtualization, compute, storage, and network infrastructure.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex problems across multiple infrastructure and application layers.
- Experience working in secure, enterprise, or mission-critical environments.
- Ability to develop or use scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform Linux system administration in enterprise and mission-critical environments.
- Administer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, including security patching, OS upgrades, package installation and upgrades, configuration, hardening, and troubleshooting.
- Support Linux-based COTS applications and mission capabilities.
- Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot containerized applications and workloads.
- Support container infrastructure, including container images, registries, networking, storage, deployment, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting.
- Support container orchestration technologies and platforms as required.
- Troubleshoot issues across the infrastructure stack, including hardware, virtualization, operating systems, containers, networking, storage, security, and applications.
- Support container image management, including image creation, versioning, validation, deployment, updating, and vulnerability remediation.
- Apply security principles to Linux and containerized environments, including system hardening, access controls, least privilege, secure configurations, and vulnerability remediation.
- Support container security practices, including image security, secrets management, and secure workload configuration.
- Monitor system, infrastructure, container, and application performance and assist in identifying and resolving resource, capacity, and performance issues.
- Support enterprise networking requirements associated with Linux and container environments, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and application connectivity.
- Support enterprise storage and persistent storage requirements for Linux and containerized applications.
- Participate in requirements gathering, technical assessments, implementation planning, integration, and deployment activities.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, configuration documentation, system diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Support production deployments, sustainment activities, incident resolution, and continuous process improvement.
- Develop and use scripts and automation to improve system administration, deployment, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Work with Government stakeholders, mission analysts, data owners, developers, and other technical teams to understand requirements and deliver reliable mission capabilities.
- Support secure, multi-party capabilities operating across multiple security classifications and domains.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to other IT engineers and support personnel as required.
Desired Experience
- Experience with Nutanix or other hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, or other container orchestration platforms.
- Experience with Docker, Podman, or comparable container technologies.
- Experience with Ansible or other configuration-management and automation technologies.
- Experience with Git or other version-control technologies.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring, logging, metrics, and performance-management tools.

- Experience with automated deployment, configuration management, or infrastructure-as-code concepts.

- Experience in air-gapped, disconnected, or highly restricted network environments, including management of software packages, container images, repositories, dependencies, and security updates.
- Experience within Department of Defense or Intelligence Community environments.
- Experience working with systems and applications operating across multiple security domains/classifications.
