What You’ll Do
Under the direct supervision of the Clubhouse Director and Assistant Clubhouse Director, the Sports, Fitness & Play Director role-models and promotes healthy behaviors throughout the Clubhouse. This role plans, organizes, and leads all athletic, physical education, and health activities, ensuring every Club member engages in meaningful physical activity and health education. The Director oversees gym and outdoor recreation spaces, manages department staff and volunteers, facilitates health education groups, and coordinates sports leagues and community partnerships.
- Day-to-Day Operations & Department Management (50%)
- Plan, organize, and execute physical education, fitness, and athletic programs, including seasonal leagues, tournaments, and skill development activities.
- Prepare daily statistical reports for Clubhouse leadership and ensure compliance with organizational policies and grant requirements.
- Direct and supervise assigned part-time staff, volunteers, and guest speakers in the health, wellness, and sports fields.
- Requisition supplies and equipment; maintain gym, locker room, and outdoor play areas with strict adherence to safety and sanitation standards.
- Transport Club members in Club vehicles or via public transportation as needed for trips, games, and events.
- Assist with Club-wide special events, fundraising projects, and community outreach.
- Health Leadership & Program Design (50%)
- Role-model and promote healthy behaviors, providing guidance on health, nutrition, and first aid to Club members and coaching staff.
- Design and facilitate health education groups covering topics such as wellness, healthy choices, and physical activity.
- Ensure broad participation across the department, developing innovative fitness and athletic programming specifically tailored for girls.
- Collaborate with external sports leagues to schedule gym time and organize neighborhood or in-house competitions.
What You Bring
Required
- Experience developing and executing organized athletic programs for youth, including fitness programs tailored for girls
- Demonstrated experience facilitating health education workshops and planning youth activities
- Personal passion for health, wellness, and physical fitness
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational communication skills
- Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent relative work experience
- Valid Class B California Driver's License to transport youth members in Club vehicles
- Coursework or knowledge in health topics (nutrition, behavioral health, sexual health, substance use prevention)
- Experience teaching specialized recreation (sports, dance, martial arts, gardening, capoeira)
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
- Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Compensation
The estimated wage range for this role is $24.00 – $27.00 per hour. Final compensation is determined based on a range of factors, including skill set, experience, training, certifications, and organizational needs. Candidates may be hired at the entry, mid, or top level of the range depending on qualifications and position requirements.
Pre-Employment Requirements
As part of the hiring process, BGCSF requires candidates to complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
