Summary
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of a growing thermoforming manufacturing company. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing month-end close activities, analyzing manufacturing costs and inventory, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting management with financial reporting and operational analysis.
Essential Job Functions
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial results and explain significant variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management financial statements and reporting packages.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Support external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers.
Manufacturing Accounting & Costing
- Maintain and analyze standard costing systems.
- Review and monitor material, labor, and overhead variances.
- Analyze production performance and manufacturing efficiencies.
- Support annual standard cost roll processes and periodic cost updates.
- Work closely with operations to ensure accurate product costing and inventory valuation.
- Provide financial analysis to support pricing, profitability, and operational decision-making.
Inventory Management
- Reconcile inventory balances and investigate discrepancies.
- Support cycle count programs and physical inventories.
- Analyze inventory adjustments, scrap, obsolete inventory, and excess stock.
- Ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded within the ERP system.
- Partner with production and warehouse teams to improve inventory accuracy and internal controls.
General Ledger & Compliance
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual account activity.
- Maintain fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules.
- Assist with sales and use tax compliance and other regulatory filings.
- Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives related to accounting and finance operations.
Business Support & Analysis
- Prepare ad hoc financial and operational analyses for management.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, and data accuracy.
Other duties as required in support of the department and the company.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Manufacturing accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with standard costing and inventory accounting preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- CPA certification preferred.
Language Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
Mathematical Skills
- Basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Statistics: interpret and analyze numerical data using statistical methods.
- Algebra: manipulate symbols and equations to find unknown values and model situations.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query, and data analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment (IQMS, DELMIAWorks, or similar).
- Ability to analyze large data sets and identify trends and anomalies.
- Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools is a plus.

Physical Demands
The employee must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, and must also be able to stand and walk throughout the manufacturing floor and warehouses as needed, including conducting and participating in physical inventory counts. They frequently use their hands to type and handle objects and must be able to communicate verbally. The role may also require reaching, crouching, stooping, and occasionally lifting objects up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodation will be provided in accordance with ADA regulations.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled office environment, with occasional time on the production floor and in warehouse areas. Conditions on the floor may include exposure to machinery, noise, and temperature variation.
