Newcomb & Boyd, a multidiscipline MEP engineering consulting firm headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking an experienced Knowledge and Learning Manager to lead the firm's technical, leadership, and compliance learning initiatives. This strategic role will partner closely with Studio Technical Directors, practice leaders, Information Technology, and Human Resources to establish a comprehensive learning framework that supports engineering excellence, leadership growth, regulatory compliance, and career development across the organization.
The Knowledge and Learning Manager ensures lessons learned, best practices, operational standards, and training content are documented, searchable, and accessible across the organization. The position also oversees the administration and continuous improvement of the Firm's Learning Management System (LMS), supports SharePoint-based knowledge platforms, and leverages emerging AI technologies to improve how employees access information.
The ideal candidate will possess significant experience supporting technical professionals within an MEP, engineering consulting, architecture, or construction-related environment and will understand the unique development needs of engineers, project managers, and technical leaders. Additionally, this role is for someone who enjoys connecting people with knowledge, improving processes, and creating scalable learning solutions that support operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Technical Learning & Professional Development
- Partner with Studio Technical Directors and discipline leaders to identify technical training needs and competency gaps across Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Technology, and Sustainability disciplines.
- Coordinate the planning, development, scheduling, and delivery of firmwide technical training programs.
- Collaborate with technical subject matter experts to develop and maintain structured learning pathways for engineers and technical staff at all career levels.
- Support development of discipline-specific curricula, engineering standards training, project delivery best practices, QA/QC education, and emerging technology training.
- Establish and maintain competency frameworks that support technical career progression and professional growth.
- Coordinate continuing education opportunities, PE exam preparation resources, industry certifications, and professional licensing support.
- Work with technical leaders to capture and disseminate lessons learned, best practices, and institutional knowledge across the firm.
- Develop processes for evaluating training effectiveness and measuring knowledge transfer.
- Maintain and enhance SharePoint and other knowledge management platforms.
- Support implementation of AI-powered knowledge search and information retrieval tools
Learning Administration & Program Management
- Manage the firm's Learning Management System (LMS), including content administration, reporting, learner assignments, and user support.
- Track employee participation, training completions, certifications, continuing education credits, and required development activities.
- Produce regular reporting and dashboards regarding training utilization, compliance status, learning effectiveness, and development metrics.
- Ensure learning records are maintained accurately and support audit and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external training vendors, instructors, consultants, and educational partners.
- Manage annual learning calendars and training budgets.
Leadership Development
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of firmwide leadership development programs.
- Create learning experiences that prepare future project managers, team leaders, department leaders, and firm leaders.
- Partner with executive leadership, Studio Directors, and Human Resources to identify leadership competencies and succession development needs.
- Facilitate training programs focused on communication, coaching, employee development, team leadership, business acumen, and client relationship management.
- Support mentorship and coaching programs that foster employee growth and knowledge transfer.
- Partner with Talent Operations to manage and facilitate the Co-op/early careers program.
Compliance & Regulatory Training
- Administer firmwide compliance training programs to ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, safety, and organizational requirements.
- Monitor completion rates and provide regular compliance reporting to leadership.
- Coordinate training related to workplace conduct, ethics, harassment prevention, cybersecurity, data privacy, safety awareness, and other required compliance initiatives.
- Maintain documentation and records to support compliance audits and organizational requirements.
Strategic Learning Leadership
- Develop and execute a firmwide learning and development strategy aligned with business objectives and workforce development priorities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership regarding talent development, employee growth, and learning best practices.
- Evaluate emerging learning technologies, instructional methods, and industry trends to continuously enhance the employee learning experience.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and technical excellence throughout the organization.
- Establish meaningful metrics to measure the impact and return on investment of learning initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong experience capturing, organizing, and documenting knowledge, processes and best practices.
- Experience administering Learning management Systems (LMS).
- Knowledge of SharePoint or similar enterprise knowledge management platforms.
- Experience tracking certification, compliance, and require training.
- Ability to develop clear documentation, SOPs, and operational standards.
- Familiarity with engineering industry, project workflows, or technical environments preferred.
- Experience supporting technology integrations across HR, learning, IT, and project management platforms.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical mindset with experience developing reports, dashboards, and process improvements.
- Interest in emerging AI technologies that improve knowledge discovery and employee learning.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, Engineering Management, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive Learning & Development experience, preferably within an MEP engineering, AEC, professional services, or technical consulting environment.
- Experience designing and managing technical training programs for engineers, project managers, and technical professionals.
- Experience developing leadership development programs and organizational learning strategies.
- Experience administering Learning Management Systems and managing employee training records.
- Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Power BI, or similar collaboration technologies preferred
- Demonstrated success partnering with technical leaders and subject matter experts.
Preferred Certifications:
- CPTD or APTD (Association for Talent Development)
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
- Knowledge Management or Information Management Certification
- SharePoint Administration training or certification
- Experience implementing AI-enabled knowledge management or enterprise search tools
- Instructional Design or Learning Technologies certifications
