Accounting Intern 

Starting Pay Rate: $20.00/hour OR for academic credits

Schedule: 15 - 20 hours per week

 

This internship provides hands-on experience in accounting operations, with a focus on accounts payable, cash receipt entries, account reconciliations, and the accurate, timely distribution of data. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to fostering a positive workplace culture. All responsibilities must be performed with strict confidentiality.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Record deposit activity for month-end posting and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and record journal entries for miscellaneous cash receipts.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations for bank accounts, receivables, and other liability accounts.
  • Research and resolve reconciling items.
  • Compile information and prepare spreadsheets to assist finance department and outside auditors in internal and external statement preparations.
  • Assist the Controller/Asst Controller to update policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Assist with data entry, filing and clerical support as needed.
  • Act as backup for Accounts Payable and Payroll Administrator positions.
  • Maintain fixed assets, purchase orders, company credit card system, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated computer efficiency (Excel and Microsoft Office Programs).
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current 2nd or 3rd year college student making progress toward a bachelor’s degree in Finance
  • Accounting or Business Administration.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Excel and MS Office Products.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with written or numerical data, and to make mathematical calculations accurately. 
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional and administrative relationships necessary within a business environment.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality with access to sensitive payroll and resident business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Professional attitude and appearance appropriate for office standards and responsibilities.
