POSITION DESCRIPTION


A & M is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our team providing leadership and management supporting A & M’s portfolio of environmental projects. Duties will include:

  • Develop and improve existing internal processes.
  • Develop and improve standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records.
  • Work with entities like ISNetworld and other associated agencies, vendors, and clients.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Approve and/or develop site-specific health and safety plans for the project site. 
  • Coordinate effectively with all field staff.
  • Work closely with all safety and operations personnel internally and externally with clients working on their assigned projects. 
  • Provide safety training for employees. (Trainer/Instructor for various environmental programs, (i.e., HAZWOPER) standard operating procedures, operational processes, and conduct field safety meetings.)
  • Execute tasks from oral instruction.
  • Attend daily safety meetings to identify specific compliance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills


A Health and Safety Specialist in a construction company plays a crucial role in ensuring job site safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management. Here are key required skills (both technical and soft skills):

  • Deep understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, especially those specific to the construction industry (e.g., OSHA 1926)
  • Ability to recognize potential safety hazards and assess risks in construction environments (e.g., working at heights, heavy machinery, confined spaces.
  • Competency in investigating workplace incidents, determining root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with industry safety codes (e.g., NFPA, ANSI, ISO 45001) and construction best practices
  • Skills in developing and implementing emergency preparation plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid.
  • Proficiency in conducting routine safety audits and job site inspections, creating reports, and following up on corrective actions.
  • Ability to document safety findings, write clear and concise reports, and maintain safety records and compliance logs.
  • Experience with safety software, mobile apps for inspections, and tools like PPE tracking or incident management systems


PREFERRED SKILLS (not required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS)
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish
  • Ability to provide safety training.
  • OSHA 40 hr HAZWOPER certification
