Job Summary:

The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as a liaison between clinical operations and information technology, supporting the optimization, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of healthcare information systems. This role works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, clinical leadership, and operational teams to improve workflows, enhance patient care, ensure regulatory compliance, and maximize the effective use of electronic health record (EHR) systems and other clinical technologies.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary resource for clinical informatics initiatives, workflow optimization, and EHR system enhancements.
  • Analyze clinical workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, patient safety, and provider satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, administrators, and IT teams to design, implement, and optimize clinical information systems.
  • Build, maintain, and support EHR templates, order sets, clinical documentation tools, forms, and workflows.
  • Assist with EHR upgrades, system implementations, testing, validation, and deployment activities.
  • Provide end-user support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution related to clinical applications and technologies.
  • Conduct workflow assessments and recommend process improvements to support organizational goals.
  • Develop training materials and provide education to physicians, clinical staff, and operational teams on system functionality and best practices.
  • Monitor system utilization and adoption, identifying opportunities for training and optimization.
  • Support quality improvement, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and accreditation initiatives through effective use of clinical technology.
  • Participate in data collection, reporting, analytics, and performance improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle, compliance, quality, and operational leadership to ensure effective clinical documentation and system utilization.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and documentation related to clinical information systems.
  • Evaluate and test new clinical technologies, software applications, and workflow solutions.
  • Participate in project planning, implementation, and change management activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Stay current with healthcare technology trends, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Clinical Informatics, Information Technology, or related healthcare field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare experience in a clinical, operational, informatics, or healthcare technology environment.
  • Experience supporting Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems required.
  • Experience with healthcare workflow analysis, implementation, optimization, and project management preferred.
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and electronic health record systems.
  • Understanding of healthcare regulations, documentation standards, HIPAA, and quality reporting requirements.
  • Ability to analyze workflows and develop practical technology-based solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and training abilities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and healthcare technology applications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, leadership, and technology teams.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
