Description
Butternut Mountain Farm is one of the largest packers of pure maple syrup in the United States. We operate a year-round food manufacturing and packaging facility in Morrisville, Vermont.
We're looking for a Syrup Production Operator to support the preparation, heating, filtration, and movement of maple syrup used by our packaging lines.
This is a hands-on production position. You will begin working on the production floor and, after demonstrating the required ability and successfully completing assessments, will be trained on syrup-processing procedures and equipment.
You will work with tanks, pumps, filters, valves, piping, and production equipment to make sure the correct syrup is available at the right temperature, quality, and flow rate to keep production running.
Previous experience working in a sugar house, maple operation, brewery, beverage facility, food production facility, or manufacturing environment is beneficial but not required. We will train the right person who is mechanically inclined, dependable, comfortable with repetitive work, and willing to learn a technical production process.
Starting pay is $21.40 per hour. Pay increases to $23.40 per hour or more, based on experience, after demonstrating competency and successfully completing the required assessments.
Requirements
What You'll Be Doing
· Begin on the production floor and learn core production and packaging processes
· Prepare, heat, filter, and supply maple syrup to production lines after completing training and competency assessments
· Follow production schedules and batching instructions to ensure the correct syrup is used
· Monitor syrup temperature, flow, color, density, and other quality requirements
· Operate pumps, valves, filtration systems, tanks, and related syrup-handling equipment
· Maintain continuous syrup flow to support packaging line speeds and minimize downtime
· Perform volume, flow, and run-rate calculations used for production and packaging
· Coordinate with Batchers, Tank Farm Operators, Production Operators, Leads, and Quality Assurance
· Troubleshoot basic equipment, pumping, plumbing, filtration, and product-flow issues
· Perform routine quality checks and make adjustments within established procedures
· Complete syrup usage, batching, traceability, and production records using tablets and computer systems
· Follow Standard Operating Procedures, food-safety requirements, and production instructions
· Clean and maintain syrup-handling equipment and work areas
· Perform repetitive lifting and material-handling tasks throughout the workday
· Identify problems or inconsistencies and communicate them promptly
· Cross-train on related syrup-handling and production processes
· Help train other employees as experience and knowledge develop
What We're Looking For
Required:
· Dependable attendance and punctuality
· Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
· Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with pumps, valves, piping, filters, and production equipment
· Good math skills, including the ability to perform volume, flow, and run-rate calculations used in production and packaging
· Ability to follow written procedures, batching instructions, and quality requirements
· Strong attention to detail
· Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions during production
· Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adjust as production priorities change
· Basic computer and data-entry skills
· Ability to communicate and work effectively with production and quality teams
· Comfortable working in hot environments at times
· Comfortable performing repetitive lifting and material-handling tasks
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand/walk for a 10-hour shift
· Ability to safely access, operate, adjust, and clean production equipment throughout the workday
· Must be at least 18 years old
Preferred Experience
· Brewery or beverage production experience
· Sugar house, sugaring, or commercial maple syrup production experience
· Food or dairy processing experience
· Experience operating pumps, tanks, valves, piping, filtration systems, or other liquid-processing equipment
· Previous manufacturing or production experience
· Experience with Epicor or another production/ERP system
Candidates with experience in brewing, sugaring, maple syrup production, beverage processing, dairy processing, or other liquid-handling operations may be especially well suited for this role. Direct maple experience is beneficial but not required.
Schedule
First Shift: Monday – Thursday
5:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Depending on production needs, earlier starts, extended hours, Fridays, or overtime will be required.
