Position Title: Math Specialist

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to: Principal


Position Objective

The Math Specialist strengthens K–8 mathematics instruction and student achievement through

teacher coaching, curriculum development, data analysis, and targeted intervention. This

position supports Visitation’s mission and helps form graduates who are faith-centered disciples,

inclusive global citizens, 21st-century thinkers, innovative collaborators, and stewards for

others.


Essential Responsibilities


Curriculum and Instruction

-     Develop and monitor K–8 mathematics goals with school leadership.

-      Align curriculum and expectations across grade levels.

-      Support consistent implementation of Visitation’s adopted math curriculum.

-      Prepare students for high school mathematics and Algebra I.

-      Promote rigorous instruction, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.


Teacher Support

-      Provide non-evaluative coaching through planning, modeling, co-teaching, observation,

         and reflection.

-      Help teachers design engaging, data-informed lessons.

-      Support research-based practices, including Building Thinking Classrooms.

-      Facilitate professional development and teacher collaboration.


Assessment and Student Support

-      Coordinate screenings, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring.

-      Analyze data to identify student strengths and learning gaps.

-      Lead data meetings and support Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

-      Collaborate with teachers, families, and the Student Support Team.


Leadership and Collaboration

-      Collaborate with school leadership, the STREAM Director, and Literacy Specialist.

-      Promote a school-wide culture of mathematical thinking and academic excellence.

-      Connect with local Catholic high schools to support student readiness.

-      Maintain Visitation’s Math Hub and support family engagement opportunities.


BFFKC Responsibilities

-      Participate in and help facilitate monthly Math Specialist PLC meetings.

-      Collaborate with BFFKC and partner schools to provide professional learning.

-      Mentor designated partner schools during the 2026–27 school year.

-      Assist with communication and documentation of program impact.

-      Remain available for BFFKC collaboration beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Requirements

Qualifications


Required

-      Master’s degree in mathematics, curriculum and instruction, elementary education, or a

         related field.

-      At least five years of successful K–8 teaching experience.

-      Experience using student data to plan instruction and interventions.

-      Strong knowledge of K–8 mathematics, assessment, and differentiation.

-      Commitment to Visitation’s Catholic mission and Portrait of a Graduate.

         Preferred

-      Math Specialist, Instructional Coach, or equivalent certification.

-      Training in evidence-based practices, including Building Thinking Classrooms.

-      Experience with elementary and middle school math intervention and enrichment.

-      Familiar with Eureka2, iReady, Acadience and Reflex
