Role Summary:

The Painter is responsible for surface preparation and painting of fabricated parts, assemblies, and materials produced in the fab shop. This role supports production schedules by delivering consistent, high-quality finishes while following all safety, environmental, and quality standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, degreasing, sanding, grinding, masking, and priming, as required by the material and finish specification.
  • Apply paint, primer, and coatings to a wide variety of materials and components using spray equipment, rollers, and brushes.
  • Inspect finished work for quality, coverage, and appearance, and correct defects such as runs, drips, or uneven coating.
  • Mix, thin, and prepare paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and work instructions.
  • Read and follow work orders, drawings, and finish specifications to ensure parts are painted correctly and on schedule.
  • Set up, operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on spray equipment, booths, and related tools.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Properly handle and stage parts before and after painting to prevent damage and allow for adequate curing time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the paint booth and prep areas.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, machining, and assembly personnel to meet production priorities.
  • Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, and follow all safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in industrial painting, coating, or surface preparation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of spray painting equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, and finish specifications.
  • Knowledge of shop safety practices and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and medical clearance as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a production environment.


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in awkward positions.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and required PPE for extended periods.
  • Exposure to paint fumes, dust, solvents, noise, and temperature variations in a shop environment.
