The Civil Project Manager leads the successful delivery of civil engineering projects by managing project performance, client relationships, and team coordination. This role requires demonstrated expertise in civil engineering design, project management, leadership, and client service.
The Civil Project Manager is accountable for project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction. Responsibilities include overseeing design production, QA/QC, permitting and stakeholder coordination, resource management, and the timely delivery of project deliverables.
In addition, the Civil Project Manager will mentor Civil Project Coordinators, Civil Designers, Technicians, and Interns to provide collaboration and leadership within the team, and continues to develop project, employee, and client management skills through guidance from Civil Team Leaders.

Essential Job Functions
- Perform all responsibilities of the Civil Project Coordinator role with a high level of proficiency.
- Coordinate with Construction Administration department and provide support throughout the construction process as needed.
- Collaborate with Landscape Architecture Project Managers throughout the design and permitting process as needed.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, sub-consultants, government agencies, and stakeholders to resolve field issues, review change orders, pay applications, as-builts, and project closeout documentation.
- Develop project proposals and addendums, including scope, budget, schedule, and permitting requirements.
- Manage client expectations regarding project scope, deliverables, regulatory requirements, schedules, and deadlines.
- Track multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring effective resource allocation, workload management, and project tracking.
- Coordinate with the Civil Team Leader on client invoicing and project financial tracking.
- Perform due diligence investigations and identify potential project risks.
- Lead QA/QC reviews of project documents and construction plans prior to submission and issuance for construction.
- Collaborate with the Team Leader to monitor project accounts receivable and coordinate
- client outreach as needed.
- Assign project tasks, provide direction to the design team, and apply sound engineering judgment to technical decisions and solutions.
- Mentor Civil Project Coordinators, Civil Designers, Technicians, and Interns and support
- their professional development.
- Assist clients with contractor bid evaluations for site work.
- Represent projects effectively in public meetings, including Development Review Boards
- (DRB), Technical Review Committees (TRC), neighborhood meetings, and public
- presentations.
- Begin developing and maintaining professional relationships with clients, general
- contractors, site and utility contractors, agency staff, structural engineers, geotechnical
- engineers, traffic engineers, and arborists.
- Participate in business development activities to strengthen client relationships and
- expand the firm's presence in the community.
- Conduct regular check-ins with assigned team members and provide constructive
- feedback to support professional development.
- Demonstrate strong organization, time management, and communication, and leadership
- skills.
- Actively participate in company strategic initiatives, committees, and recruiting efforts.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college/university required.
- Experience: Typically, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in civil engineering, land development or construction-related project management. Manage and mentor a minimum of 1 team member.
Desired Skills
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is strongly preferred; Professional Engineer (P.E.)
- exam completed or in progress preferred.
- Working knowledge of project proposals, including scope, permitting, budgets, and
- schedules.
- Proficiency in client relationship management and business development.
- Ability to review and coordinate final plats, roadway, drainage, water, and sewer as-builts
- with contractors and surveyors.
- Understanding of the permitting process on both state and local levels.
