HR Generalist
Action Overhead Garage Door | Full-Time | Prior Lake, MN
Action Overhead Garage Door is seeking an experienced, hands-on HR Generalist to manage day-to-day HR operations and support our team of close to 100 employees across our locations. This role is responsible for payroll, benefits, workers’ compensation, HRIS administration, recruiting, onboarding, employee records, leave administration, and other core HR functions.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable working independently, and able to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines while serving as a resource for employees and managers.
What You'll Do
• Process bi-weekly payroll, including reviewing timecards and employee changes, reconciling payroll results, and resolving discrepancies.
• Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, qualifying life events, open enrollment, COBRA coordination, payroll deductions, and carrier invoice reconciliation.
• Coordinate workers’ compensation claims, including initial reporting, communication with employees and insurance representatives, work restrictions, and return-to-work coordination.
• Coordinate employee leaves, including FMLA, Minnesota Paid Leave, and other applicable leave programs.
• Maintain accurate employee information in the HRIS and personnel files and regularly audit payroll, benefit, and employee data.
• Lead recruiting and hiring, including job postings, candidate communication, interviews, offers, pre-employment requirements, and onboarding.
• Coordinate employee separations, required documentation, unemployment responses, and final recordkeeping.
• Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding payroll, benefits, HR policies, procedures, and general employment questions.
• Maintain HR deadlines, job descriptions, employee handbook updates, policies, forms, and required records.
• Document employee concerns and workplace matters and escalate sensitive or higher-risk issues to management as appropriate.
• Assist with HR projects and other responsibilities as business needs evolve.
• Provide coaching and training to help managers strengthen their leadership and people-management skills
What You'll Bring
• Preferably 5 years of hands-on HR experience, preferably in a generalist role supporting multiple HR functions.
• Experience independently processing payroll.
• Experience with benefits administration and workers’ compensation.
• Experience maintaining HRIS and employee records with a high level of accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data reconciliation.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state employment requirements.
• Strong organization, communication, discretion, and follow-through.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Professional HR certification is a plus.
Location
This is a full-time, office-based position with regular travel between company locations.
Regular weekly travel to our Prior Lake and Champlin locations is expected, with travel to our Shakopee office as needed.
