Assistant Building Inspector
REPORTS TO: Building Inspector
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: The mission of the Apple Canyon Lake Property Owners Association is to bring a superior level of service to the local community, ensuring that members and guests have a exceptional lake living experience that will not only encourage return visits, but generate excitement and, ultimately, increase pride in property ownership and property values.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the AECC in the performance of its duties by maintaining the owner property files, permit application documentation, AECC meeting dates, agendas, and meeting minutes.
- Administer the assignment and payment of permit fees and fines.
- Answer ACL Code questions and provide available property information.
- Upon receipt of a building permit application, the Building Inspector shall review the project and shall issue to the AECC a determination as to its suitability as to its compliance with the Governing Documents and the ACL Building and Environmental Code.
- Permit application review shall consider site planning and clearing should be accomplished, insofar as is feasible, in a manner which respects and preserves the existing natural trees, vegetation and land contours.
- Review available data for project conflicts with existing septic systems.
- Perform project site inspections, including setback compliance and verification of erosion control measures prior to construction.
- Issue citations and stop work orders as described in the ACL Code.
- Administer the septic inspections program, the lot combination program, the variance application program.
- Assist the General Manager, the Conservation Commission and the Natural Resource Manager regarding ACL and Jo Daviess Code compliance.
- Assist the General Manager and the ACL Board of Directors with Special Projects and Master Planning.
Qualifications:
· While direct inspection experience is not required for an assistant role, 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in general contracting, carpentry, electrical, or plumbing trades to ensure you can confidently navigate an active job site, is preferred.
· A high school degree or GED equivalent
· Past work experience in construction trades, carpentry, or general maintenance is preferred
· Computer Literacy: Familiarity with inspection software, data entry, and mobile digital tools
· Certifications from organizations like the International Code Council (ICC) are often required later for career growth or advancement
Working Conditions:
· The majority of the work will be performed, standing, or walking. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as dangerous equipment or chemicals.
