This is a full-time, year-round position. Qualified candidates must be available to work at least 1 weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).
POSITION SUMMARY
The Deli – Prep Cook plays a key role in supporting the deli department by preparing ingredients and producing ready-to-eat food items according to established recipes, quality standards, and food safety guidelines. This position is responsible for food preparation, product rotation, sanitation, and maintaining an organized work area while ensuring products are available, fresh, and appealing for customers. The Deli – Prep Cook works closely with other deli team members to support efficient department operations and an exceptional customer experience. This position reports to the Deli Assistant Manager and Deli Manager and works collaboratively with deli and store team members to support department goals and daily operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Prepare deli items according to established recipes, procedures, and food safety standards.
· Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, slicing, chopping, measuring, mixing, and portioning food according to recipes and production schedules.
· Safely operate knives, slicers, mixers, fryers, ovens, and other food preparation equipment.
· Ensure hot and cold food items are properly stocked, rotated, and maintained for quality and freshness.
· Stamp, mark, or tag merchandise with correct pricing.
· Monitor product quality and remove outdated or unsellable items
· Assist customers with locating products and answering basic questions about prepared foods.
· Bag or wrap special requests for customers.
· Set up displays, stocks and face shelves with new merchandise.
· Maintain cleanliness of fry station, prep areas, shelves, cases, coolers, and back-of-house areas.
· Move ingredients, prepared foods, and supplies between storage, coolers, freezers, and production areas.
· Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, pans, and food preparation equipment.
· Follow all Island Market procedures, food safety guidelines, and workplace safety standards.
· Support other deli or bakery retail tasks as needed to ensure smooth department operations.
· Perform any and all other assigned tasks.

· Experience in a deli, kitchen, or similar food-service environment preferred
· Ability to work safely around hot equipment and cleaning chemicals
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

· Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Good analytical and organizational skills
· Must obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Food Worker Card.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
· Frequently performs repetitive grasping, gripping, pinching, cutting, slicing, and fine motor tasks using hands and fingers.
· Regularly uses knives, slicers, and other sharp food preparation equipment.
· Regularly stands and walks for up to 8 hours per shift.
· Frequently required to bend, reach, twist, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive hand and wrist movements.
· Frequently lifts and carries up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
· Frequently pushes and pulls carts, racks and equipment throughout the workday.
· Regularly operates deli equipment including slicers, ovens, fryers, mixers, and food preparation tools.
· Works in varying temperature conditions, including refrigerated coolers, freezers, heated food preparation areas, and kitchen environments.
· Regularly exposed to food odors, cleaning chemicals, moisture, grease, and moderate noise levels.
· Must possess sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to safely prepare food, operate equipment, read labels, and perform cleaning and sanitation tasks.
· Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards.
This position is eligible for Prime Time Pay. Prime Time Pay provides an additional $3/hour above the base rate for all hours worked Saturdays and Sundays and hours worked Monday through Friday between 6:00 pm and 3:00 am.
