Position Summary
Tower Saint John's Imaging is seeking an experienced Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist to join our team. This position is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations while providing exceptional patient care in a safe, efficient, and professional environment. The Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist will provide coverage based on departmental staffing and scheduling needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrates behaviors that reflect Tower’s core values of quality, safety, teamwork, accountability, integrity, and respect while maintaining patient dignity.
- Prepares and performs daily equipment checks to ensure ultrasound machines are functioning properly and examination rooms are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Explains procedures to patients, answers questions, and ensures patient comfort and safety throughout examinations.
- Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols, procedures, and physician orders.
- Demonstrates proficiency in general ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, gynecological, small parts, and vascular studies.
- Assists physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures, including fine-needle aspirations (FNA) and other invasive procedures, while maintaining proper sterile technique.
- Maintains accurate documentation, including transvaginal probe disinfection logs and other required quality assurance records.
- Enters patient information and examination data into ultrasound equipment when necessary and provides complete technologist summaries in PACS to support physician interpretation.
- Verifies patient identification using appropriate identifiers before performing any examination.
- Coordinates with scheduling, clinical staff, and radiologists to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Maintains professional competency through continuing education and ongoing development of ultrasound scanning skills.
- Meets all regulatory requirements for certification renewal and complies with Tower’s policies regarding training, attendance, punctuality, and professional appearance.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and company information in accordance with HIPAA and applicable privacy and security requirements.

Requirements
Education and Experience
- Education: Completion of an ARDMS-approved training program that meets registry eligibility requirements.
- Work Experience: One to three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as an Ultrasound Technologist. Vascular experience preferred.
- Certifications and Licensure: Current ARDMS certification and current BLS provider card.
- Medical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of medical terminology and cross-sectional anatomy.
- Equipment: Experience using ultrasound equipment and computers.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of bloodborne pathogen requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
Per Diem Scheduling Requirements
- This is a Per Diem position, with shifts scheduled based on departmental coverage needs.
- Must be available to provide coverage for scheduled shifts, staffing shortages, and additional departmental needs.
- Flexibility to work weekday, late/evening, and weekend shifts is required.
- Must be willing to work additional hours or overtime when requested and authorized.
Physical Requirements and Exposures
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Hand and finger mobility sufficient for reaching, scanning, and operating keyboards and other imaging equipment.
- Occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Hearing and speaking ability sufficient for face-to-face and telephone communication.
- Vision, with or without correction, sufficient for near and distance work and operation of office and medical equipment. Color vision is required.
- Potential exposure to chemicals, biohazardous waste, and sharp instruments.
- Noise level typical of an office and medical clinic environment.
Additional Information
- Responsible for completing continuing education credits required to maintain current certification or licensure, at the employee’s own cost and on their own time.
Salary: $36.00 - $40.00/hr
