Turf Supervisor
Description

Ryan Lawn & Tree is one of the most respected names in lawn and tree care — a $100M+ company with room to grow across five states: Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Iowa. We're on a mission to raise the bar for our industry, and that starts with hiring great people, treating them right, and giving them the chance to grow with us.

Are you an experienced lawn care professional ready to lead a team? Ryan Lawn & Tree is looking for a Turf Supervisor who takes pride in healthy, great-looking lawns, enjoys developing people, and wants to grow a career with a company that invests in its team.

In this hands-on leadership role, you'll split your time between the field and your team. You'll deliver lawn care services, diagnose turf problems on client properties, and coach a crew of technicians to do the job the Ryan way. You'll also partner with the Department Manager on strategy, financial goals, hiring, and team development, which makes this a strong step toward management.

What You'll Do

Lead in the Field

  • Deliver lawn department services on client properties and fill in on production based on staffing and seasonal demand
  • Complete diagnostic service calls and bid requests, and recommend additional services from other Ryan departments
  • Apply your knowledge of turfgrass management, pest control, grass and weed identification, and disease and insect identification to solve problems
  • Prepare equipment at the start and end of each day
  • Drive company vehicles to and from client properties

Build and Develop Your Team

  • Supervise a team of 3 or more technicians or multiple small crews, with a focus on teamwork and efficiency
  • Train technicians hands-on in the Ryan Method, and hold regular one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Make sure every team member has the tools, resources, and training needed to serve customers well
  • Conduct 90-day, mid-year, and annual performance reviews, and ensure annual compensation reviews happen for each team member
  • Set individual and team goals that align with company strategy
  • Participate in hiring, disciplinary actions, and succession planning in partnership with HR

Take Care of Our Clients

  • Communicate with clients daily about service plans, expectations, and results
  • Resolve customer concerns and work to retain dissatisfied clients

Drive Department Success

  • Help the Department Manager set financial goals and hold the team accountable for production, sales, and growth
  • Work with Marketing to target campaigns toward services with growth potential
  • Work with the Safety team to keep facilities and equipment in good shape and ensure all legal and safety requirements are met
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings
Requirements
  • 4+ years of green industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass management and pest control practices
  • The ability to identify grasses, weeds, and turf diseases and insects
  • A valid driver's license and DOT certificate
  • A current state pesticide applicator license in Lawn, Ornamental, and Pest Control (or the ability to obtain them)
  • The ability to lead a team and also work efficiently on your own
  • Clear, professional communication skills with customers and coworkers
  • Successful completion of position-specific Ryan U training and field assessment

** SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION: This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the operation of vehicles and equipment. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana), criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical (where applicable) before starting employment. Candidates must meet all screening requirements as a condition of employment.

We hire great people for our employee-owned company. As a member of our team, you'll become a partner in the highest-quality lawn and tree company in the Midwest.
