Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the General Manager (GM), the Director of Operations oversees all operational responsibilities (and assigned vendor partnerships) for the waterpark, including all department safety, training and compliance responsibilities, as well as ensure all In-Park-Entertainment (IPE) events are executed with excellence for Typhoon Texas Austin Waterpark. Must demonstrate operational and leadership aptitude to support their team to meet with excellence all guest experience expectations as well as all company goals and KPI’s. The Director owns the operations budget, labor plan, and vendor agreements, sets department plans and KPI targets, and develops the Operations Manager while serving as a strategic partner to park leadership.
Position Responsibilities:
- Ensure a team-focused and others-first mentality is always demonstrated to assist the business with exceeding community and corporate expectations by partnering and supporting all team-members.
- Manage direct reports while providing clear expectations for projects, goals, and daily operations to ensure all direct reports follow and/or enforce company and park policies. Shared by Park Leadership and/or outlined within Typhoon Texas Code of Conduct, Appearance Policy, Pyek Playbook, and Employee Handbook.
- Provide and document regular training, guidance and instruction with excellence to each direct report including but not limited to: new hire / re-hire training, pre-season training, in-service training as well as daily feedback.
- Responsible for partnering with Human Resources to recruit, hire, train, coach, and discipline all direct reports.
- Lead, develop, and evaluate the Operations Manager; build succession plans and develop supervisors and coordinators into future leaders.
- Lead team to ensure all company safety and cleanliness standards are exceeded.
- Approve the department labor plan and staffing model, and ensure the Operations Manager and Operations Admin schedule all employees of the operations team to be onsite in compliance with company standards to ensure the park operates daily while completing all required before, during, and after compliance checklists.
- Ensure all park services and operations stated deadlines regarding opening and closing of the park in and out of season, as well as any IPE planning and scheduling are met as outlined by company leadership.
- Set, approve, and hold managers accountable to comprehensive procedures for daily park cleanliness, attraction operations, training, safety, leadership expectations and cleanliness with excellence.
- Negotiate, approve, and manage vendor agreements (i.e. Medical, Police/Security, Ellis & Associates, Bands, DJ’s) to ensure all partnerships meet cost and contracted expectations, timely scheduling and the compliance of all required documents.
- Develop, own, and manage the operations budget and labor plan, track expenses against budget, and recommend cost-saving and revenue opportunities.
- Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly inspections recorded in Mobaro and review results for trends and corrective action. Be responsive and accountable to required completion, and record retention of checklists, inspections, inventory, and timesheets as well as all department purchasing and budgetary expectations associated with this leadership role.
- Set annual operating plans, staffing models, and KPI targets for the department, and review guest satisfaction, safety audit, and labor results with park leadership.
- Ensure all water safety, park services, and grounds positions meet excellent operational standards by regularly inspecting and auditing the team while coaching everyone to meet with excellence expected results.
- Ensure all guest-facing areas, team member areas, back-of-house areas and storage areas associated with operations meet or exceed company cleanliness, inventory and organization standards while resolving concerns in a timely fashion.
- Ensure all dispatch control systems, training equipment, daily equipment, guest-facing furniture (chairs, tables, umbrellas, etc.) are properly maintained, inventoried & serviced by prioritizing a proactive approach to ensure operating efficiency and safety for guests and employees with excellence. Report all repairs using Mobaro.
- Review, understand and ensure compliance with all local and national codes relevant to our area of business including Model Aquatic Health Code, ASTM, Health Department, ADA Code, OSHA Code, Ellis & Associates, etc.
- Own the park’s emergency action plan and severe-weather procedures, and lead audit readiness for Ellis & Associates, Health Department, and other regulatory inspections.
- Report facility issues that are not immediately repairable to the General Manager.
- Follow instructions and best practices for safety and compliance when using equipment (such as ladders, tools, lifts, motorized vehicles, etc.), working in hazardous environments or using chemical products and materials.
- Proactively addresses guest feedback and on-site concerns and leads service recovery efforts to ensure consistent excellence in park operations and guest experience.

Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- 5+ years of waterpark, amusement park, or related guest-service operations experience required, including 2+ years managing supervisors or managers.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing operating budgets and labor plans.
- Must be able to work in warm/humid settings and hot/humid weather for outdoor waterpark environments.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- May occasionally be required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, or balance.
- Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays while exposed to all types of weather.
- Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office as well as basic computer skills and app-based technology.
- Able to obtain the following certifications: OSHA-10 Certification, CPO/AFO Certification, First Aid Certification, Ellis & Associates Lifeguard License for Special Facilities, Ellis & Associates Instructor Certification.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; bachelor's degree preferred.
