Math Interventionist
Description

 The Math Interventionist will work closely with students in Kindergarten–8th grade who need additional support in mathematics. This individual will provide targeted instruction to students individually and/or in small groups to strengthen foundational math skills, close learning gaps, and improve academic performance. The Math Interventionist will collaborate with classroom teachers, the MTSS Coordinator, and school leadership to use student data to identify needs, develop interventions, and monitor student progress.

  • Assess and screen students to identify specific areas of need in mathematics.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and the MTSS Coordinator to identify students needing additional math support.
  • Provides targeted, intensive math instruction to students individually and, or small groups, particularly those receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
  • Develop and implement individualized math intervention plans based on student needs, assessment results, and learning styles.
  • Support students in developing foundational math skills, including number sense, computation, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and grade level concepts.
  • Use student assessment data, including iReady and classroom assessments, to plan instruction and monitor student growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interventions, progress monitoring, and academic performance.
  • Regularly review student progress and adjust interventions to improve student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with grade-level math instruction and curriculum expectations.
  • Observe students in classroom settings to better understand their learning needs and identify opportunities for additional support.
  • Provide teachers, teacher assistants, paraprofessionals and parents with resources and strategies to support students’ math development.
  • Model effective math instructional strategies and provide coaching and follow-up support to classroom teachers as needed.
  • Participate in MTSS meetings, student support team meetings, and data discussions to review student progress and recommend next steps.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that builds students’ confidence and strengthens their mathematical understanding.
  • Support PECS school-wide academic goals by helping students demonstrate measurable growth in mathematics.
  • Performs all duties assigned by the Principal
  • Directly reports to the Principal
Requirements

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field required.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an appropriate endorsement preferred.
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the elementary and/or middle school level.
  • Experience providing small-group instruction, academic interventions, or differentiated instruction preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework and Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
  • Experience using student assessment data to guide instruction and monitor progress.
  • Strong understanding of foundational math concepts and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, students, and families.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to improving student achievement and supporting the mission and vision of PECS.
