Youth Community Engagement Librarian—Tween and Teen Services 

(Full-Time position)

The Glenview Public Library is seeking a dynamic, creative, outgoing, and proactive professional to join our Youth Services Community Engagement team. We welcome candidates with either a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or teachers with a Master’s degree in Education.


We are looking for someone who listens to young people, builds their trust, and puts their ideas into action. This role serves middle school and high school students and their families. You will bring enthusiasm and follow-through to developing programs, cultivating partnerships, and connecting students with Library resources. Your work will help make the Library a place where young people feel they belong and have opportunities to connect, learn, grow, and thrive.


The typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. Additionally, this position participates in an evening and weekend rotation, working approximately every fifth Friday evening and 8 scheduled weekends per year (Saturday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM; Sunday, 1:00–5:00 PM). Additional evening and weekend hours will be required to represent the library at school and community events.


The pay range for this position is $54,857 to $64,000 annually. Offers are made based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.

In addition to providing reference and readers’ advisory services, you will:

· Engage middle school and high school students in conversations about their interests, needs, and barriers to participation, and use their input to shape responsive Library services and experiences.

· Develop engaging programs and experiences that reflect young people’s interests and encourage their participation.

· Lead the Teen Advisory Board, helping teens turn their ideas into action and serving as an advisor and liaison for teen-led programming, including the annual Open Mic Night.

· Organize and supervise middle school and high school volunteers year-round, creating meaningful opportunities for them to contribute to the Library and their community.

· Represent the Library at school and community events, actively connecting with young people, families, educators, and community partners.

· Build and sustain relationships with local schools and organizations, taking initiative to identify and develop opportunities for outreach, partnership, and collaboration.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative, courteous working relationships with a multicultural/multigenerational staff and patron population.

· Successfully handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

· Can listen, analyze, solve problems, and exercise good judgment when handling both routine and non-routine issues.

· Works independently and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.

· Adaptable to changes in existing practices, Library routines, and workflows.

· Ability to adjust work schedule to support programming and outreach needs.

· Ability to travel to off-site events, including securing reliable transportation; if driving, must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and maintain proof of current automobile insurance.
