About the Job
As our Quality Engineer, you’ll make sure our products are made to specification and to our customers’ requirements—from pilot runs all the way through routine production. Building on the work of a quality technician, you’ll take on added ownership of production quality systems, CAPA follow-up, equipment and cleaning validations, and continuous improvement on the line. You’ll also work directly with customers when they’re on site and help support regulatory and customer audits.
Schedule & On-Site Work
This is a hands-on, on-site role—the work happens on the production floor and with customers in our facility, so regular, predictable attendance is essential. Because the schedule follows pilot runs and customer visits, hours vary and can include early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
What You’ll Do
- Perform and verify in-process quality checks—pre-operational checks, first article inspection, lot number and expiration date verification, scale checks, line clearances, and seal integrity testing
- Cross-train with the quality technicians to understand production needs and provide technical guidance on checks and documentation
- Maintain quality checks in production systems such as RedZone, keeping the right checks in place and reporting complete and accurate
- Follow up on CAPAs and verify that corrective actions are effective
- Take part in pilot runs to set them up for success and ensure a smooth handoff to routine production
- Oversee equipment (IQ/OQ/PQ) and cleaning validations for manufacturing lines
- Work directly with customers, especially when they’re on site, to ensure product success in production
- Partner with Production and Quality to drive continuous improvement and resolve processing issues that could lead to quality defects
- Place product on hold when it doesn’t meet specification—quality decisions are made independently of production
- Support regulatory, certification, and customer audits
- Complete all paperwork and records accurately and in real time, as the work is performed
What Makes You a Great Fit
- High school diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of quality experience in food, dietary supplement, or pharmaceutical manufacturing. A bachelor's degree in engineering, food science, or a related science; ASQ CQE or CQT; HACCP or PCQI training; and validation and RedZone experience are a plus
- Working knowledge of FDA cGMP (21 CFR Parts 111 and 117), SQF, and HACCP requirements
- Working knowledge of equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) and cleaning validation
- Strong root cause analysis skills, with the ability to document investigations and CAPAs
- Comfortable analyzing production and defect data and setting up checks and reports in production software
- Clear oral and written communication with customers, auditors, and production staff
- Able to manage multiple priorities as pilot and production schedules shift
- Able to read and follow SOPs and batch records in English and record data accurately
- Comfortable with the physical demands of the role—medium work with frequent standing and walking on the floor, occasional bending, reaching, and climbing platform stairs, and occasional lifting of up to about 40 lbs
- Comfortable on the production and packaging floor, where you’ll encounter powders and dust, machine noise, moving equipment, and sanitation chemicals, and wear required PPE (hair and beard net, smock, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, slip-resistant footwear, and hearing protection in posted areas)
- We’ll also consider any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the role
