Inc. is seeking seeking a visionary, high-integrity, and deeply collaborative President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into its next era of strategic growth and community impact. Based in Waterbury, Connecticut, the President & CEO serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation, carrying full operational, fiscal, and strategic responsibility for the organization's mission. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will champion our organizational values, cultivate critical public and private partnerships, and lead a dedicated executive team to deliver sustainable, high-impact programming across the region.

New Opportunities, Inc. (NOI) is a leading community action agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for economically disadvantaged individuals. Our mission is to provide the resources necessary to increase standards of living, foster self-improvement, and maximize self-empowerment.

Headquartered in Waterbury, Connecticut, NOI serves Waterbury, Meriden, Torrington, Winsted, and 22 surrounding communities. The organization administers more than 50 social service programs supporting low-income individuals, seniors, and people with disabilities.  The Board of Directors is composed of one-third elected officials, one-third private sector representatives, and one-third low-income community representatives. With approximately 225 employees, NOI works every day to eliminate poverty and expand opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, innovation, and mission-driven service.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to a diverse executive team and staff.
  • Develop and execute the organization’s strategic vision and operational priorities.
  • Attract, develop, and retain a diverse, high-performing workforce.
  • Ensure programs, operations, and services are positioned for continued growth and success.

Board Partnership

  • Work closely with the Board Chair and Board of Directors to guide governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Support strategic planning and policy development.
  • Provide regular updates and insights to support informed Board decision-making.
  • Lead board development and ensure representation reflective of the communities served.

Organizational Management

  • Oversee organizational performance, including program effectiveness, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability.
  • Empower executive and senior leadership teams while fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Identify and cultivate future leaders within the organization.

Community Engagement

  • Serve as the public face and spokesperson for the organization.
  • Build strategic partnerships with business leaders, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Advocate for programs and initiatives that strengthen services for youth, adults, and seniors.
  • Represent the organization at community events, public forums, and speaking engagements.


Requirements

Qualities and Requirements 

Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s degree in public or business administration or urban planning preferred, or similar combination of education and experience that will provide the capability required to manage the duties listed above.  

The ideal candidate will be innovative and inspiring leader with at least five to seven years of increasing responsibility in a management or leadership role, non-profit experience preferred. Experience should include agency administration, fiscal management, grant management, fundraising, maintaining relationships on the state and local levels, and public relations.

Compensation and Employment Status

This is an exempt executive-level position with an annual salary range of $160,000 to $200,000, subject to applicable executive-level compensation cap requirements.
