Position Summary
The Engagement Specialist helps create a welcoming, well-supported Girl Scout experience by connecting girls and adults with troops and volunteer opportunities as part of the Membership Experience Team. Reporting to the Vice President of Membership Experience, this role is vital to guiding volunteers through registration, background checks, training, approval requirements, accurate troop and account records, and identifying volunteer leadership needs. The Engagement Specialist provides timely support and works collaboratively to help strengthen troops and expand opportunities for girls to participate in Girl Scouting.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary point of contact for placement of registered girls and adults into troops and volunteer roles.
- Assist and answer questions for registered adult members regarding Criminal Background checks, onboarding requirements, and training needs.
- Work collaboratively with Membership Experience Specialist to support new leaders through the onboarding process.
- Maintain timely and detailed records of troop level statistics such as location, dates, membership records to ensure volunteers and families receive accurate information.
- Monitor girl and adult volunteer participation by troop and community, identify gaps that may affect troop viability or growth, and communicate recruitment needs to the appropriate team members.
- Create a sense of belonging for members and model behavior consistent with the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting.
- Work collaboratively with all Council departments to ensure council program and initiatives are shared with girl and adult membership.
- Provide prospective members with timely follow-up information to help them complete the membership process.
- Provide back-up support in the retail store assisting customers and serving as a cashier.
- Assist other council departments during peak seasons on council wide projects, events, and activities to provide back-up support.

Who You Are & Keys to Success
- Highschool Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years’ experience in customer service, sales, or recruitment. Associates degree preferred.
- Possess basic computer and data entry skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (verbal, written, in person and/or over the telephone) Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred.
- Experience with using sales/customer management software for data management Salesforce preferred.
- Customer service focus and can communicate in a friendly and professional manner with a wide range of people both internal and externally to answer questions and foster a positive attitude towards Girl Scouting via all modes of communication.
- Display high integrity and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a team environment to accomplish established goals.
- Can work independently with minimum supervision, show initiative, demonstrate reliability, is flexible and can shift priorities in response to changing needs.
- Display resilience and maintain professionalism when responding to prospective members who express disinterest.
- Be adaptable to taking on additional duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the team and council.
- Willingness to subscribe to Girl Scout philosophy program and join as a Girl Scout member, which includes paying a membership fee either annually or as a Lifetime Member.
- Occasional travel within the region and access to dependable transportation is required. A valid driver’s license and use of your own vehicle are preferred. If so, you must comply with the council’s automobile insurance policy limits and have a driving record that meets the requirements of the council’s business auto insurance carrier. If you are unable to drive, a transportation plan must be submitted and approved prior to an official offer being made.
- The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee may be required sit or stand for long periods of time and operate office equipment manually. The employee must be able to routinely lift 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
