Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking a Per Diem Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our Rehabilitation team. This is an opportunity to use your skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Veterans while working alongside a collaborative team of rehabilitation and healthcare professionals.
As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will provide physical therapy treatments to residents participating in prescribed physical therapy programs under the direction of a Physical Therapist. You will help residents work toward their individualized goals while providing safe, compassionate, and respectful care.
What You’ll Do
- Provide physical therapy treatments in accordance with each resident’s plan of care and the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Review resident care plans and medical records to ensure appropriate and safe treatment.
- Document treatments and resident progress, including daily notes, weekly progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Monitor and communicate changes in residents’ condition and other concerns to the appropriate team members.
- Work collaboratively with Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Speech Therapists, Rehabilitation Aides, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Maintain therapy equipment in a safe, clean, and functional condition.
- Provide education and training to facility staff as directed.
- Uphold resident rights and maintain confidentiality.
- Follow all applicable rehabilitation policies, state and federal regulations, and VA requirements.
- Provide coverage on weekends and holidays as needed.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current State of Maine licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic computer skills
Preferred:
- Experience working in a long-term care or skilled nursing environment.
