Position Summary:


The Deli Lead is a hands-on, working leader responsible for supporting the Manager and helping guide the team during shifts. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills to ensure the deli functions efficiently, maintains high standards of food quality, and provides exceptional customer service.   This role focuses on floor leadership, service excellence, and team support rather than full departmental management. The Lead serves as a role model for associates and helps ensure smooth, efficient deli service.   


Requirements

  

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Supervise and lead a team of deli associates, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring efficient workflow and adequate coverage during operating hours.
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation, cooking, and packaging of various deli items, including meats, cheeses, salads, sandwiches, and other ready-to-eat foods.
  • Ensure that food products are prepared and presented according to established standards for quality, freshness, and visual appeal.
  • Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages and minimize waste.
  • Maintain a strong focus on food safety and hygiene standards, following all health codes and regulations.
  • Address any customer concerns or complaints regarding food quality promptly and professionally.
  • Arrange and display deli products in an attractive and organized manner, using effective merchandising techniques.
  • Regularly rotate and replenish products to maintain freshness and visual appeal.
  • Monitor product expiration dates and remove items that have surpassed their shelf life.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the deli area, equipment, and utensils.
  • Ensuring refrigeration is at proper temperatures 

 

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to successfully lead, coach, train, develop and motivate a team.
  • Ability to maintain composure, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding department needs and priorities.
  • Willingness and availability to work a flexible schedule that includes: days ,nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong leadership/management skills with an ability to connect positively with Associates in a professional manner.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and kneeling throughout the shift
  • Manual dexterity to safely handle knives, tools, and kitchen equipment
  • Clear vision and hearing to ensure safety, accuracy, and effective communication
  • Ability to climb step stools or ladders as needed
  • Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts as scheduled
