Job Summary
Advance Metroparks Toledo’s core conservation mission by aiding the Planning and Construction Department. Obtain practical work experience and supplement a formal educational program while completing planning and construction tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the production of construction drawings and specifications
- Perform field inspections, audits, data collection and physical assessments of capital assets
- Assist in the production of conceptual and planning drawings for park improvement projects.
- Scan documents, plan sets, organizing project and departmental files.
- Assist in the development of department processes and standards.
- Investigate, research, and compile information as necessary to complete studies, cost estimates and reports.
- Inspect and monitor construction projects including recording observations, completing daily inspection reports and required documentation.
- Develop software skills to take full advantage of design and planning software.
- Other work-related duties as assigned.

- Software & Apps: Microsoft365, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Adobe, Geographic Information System (GIS), Unity Asset Management
- Vehicles: on & off-road trucks
- Survey tools and equipment; GPS devices and mapping tools
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Schedule: up to 40-hour work-week that may require work in the evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
- Length of internship is one trimester/semester and can be extended one trimester/semester at a time based on needs of the district. The internship will not exceed three years total or one year beyond graduation from degree program.
- Home Work Location: Fallen Timbers Field Office
- May require business use of personal vehicle to travel between Metroparks locations.
- <10% travel outside Lucas County.
- Requires occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds; ability to physically visit construction sites and transport equipment necessary for required fieldwork; ability to perform onsite inspections of park district assets and construction projects in all site and weather conditions.
Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Education: Currently pursuing and has completed at least two semesters towards a Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, architecture, construction management, civil engineering, or related field.
- Experience: No prior experience needed.
Alternates to the position requirements may be made as Metroparks finds appropriate and acceptable.

Knowledge (or the Willingness and Ability to Learn)
- Knowledge of the creation of construction documents.
- Knowledge of how to assess construction projects and conditions.
- Knowledge of how to use survey equipment and measuring devices.
- Knowledge of how to perform research relating to construction materials, specifications, and installation techniques.
Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft365, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and/or Adobe,
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak and write clearly with the ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Project Management skills; ability to meet deadlines and deliver accurate results.
- Problem Solving skills; ability to gather, organize and evaluate data; formulate recommendations and develop possible solutions.
Abilities
- Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with all stakeholders, including employees, volunteers and the general public.
