SANY’s Utica Academy of Science Charter School Elementary School is excited to announce an immediate opening for a School Counselor serving students in Grades K–5.
We are seeking a compassionate, dynamic, and student-centered professional who is passionate about supporting the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of elementary school students. We provide an excellent environment for both new and experienced staff members and encourage qualified candidates to apply.
New York State School Counselor Certification is required.
What We’re Looking For
Our School Counselor will:
- Support K–5 students who may be experiencing emotional, behavioral, family, social, or academic challenges.
- Provide individual and small-group counseling as appropriate.
- Help students develop healthy coping strategies, conflict-resolution skills, and positive relationships.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to support student success.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, school staff, and community members.
- Assist in resolving student conflicts and addressing social-emotional concerns.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to identify student needs and appropriate interventions.
- Use student data and other relevant information to help guide counseling supports and interventions.
- Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Maintain a strong belief that all students can succeed.

Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Counseling or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- New York State School Counselor Certification
- Experience working with elementary-age children
- Experience working with diverse student populations or in an urban school setting is a plus
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Fingerprint clearance through the New York State Education Department
