To ensure that we hire and retain the quality of staff needed for implementing our philosophy of service, we have adopted the following job description for this position.

The position is an hourly position. Workdays are typically scheduled withing a five-day workweek. Hours and days may vary based on operational needs. All scheduling complies with applicable California wage-and-hour-laws. 

Many of the responsibilities require that you have a working knowledge of computers and the ability to make proper use of the programs utilized in this office, or those that may be necessary to meet the needs of the practice.


BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Medical Assistant shall be responsible for assisting their assigned provider in clinic with all aspects of the patients’ visit.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant will primarily perform in the Clinical Office. The duties of the Medical Assistant are of high volume, and the quality of duties performed need to be at a high level. The Medical Assistant will come into contact on a daily basis with confidential patient files and must be able to handle this information with the highest degree of privacy, discretion, and professionalism. The Medical Assistant is required to be available to the physician and patients while in clinic and is only authorized to leave an ongoing clinic with the direct permission by the Clinical Manager. The Medical Assistant is responsible for accomplishing the duties set forth below:


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that authorization is complete for the patient visit.
  • Ensure that all necessary diagnostic studies and reports are available for the provider to review.
  • Ensure proper documentation in our EMR system for patients’ visits. This includes, but is not limited to, using the appropriate template and completing the history portion including medication, past medical and surgical history, weighing all new and preoperative patients, and taking vitals. 
  • Document in EMR any changes in patients’ conditions since last visit.
  • Per the physician’s direction, mark all charges for services rendered and make sure that there is documentation in EMR justifying the charges. 
  • Confirm the documentation includes what is necessary for any diagnostic testing or therapy or surgical procedures ordered by the provider, and forward the appropriate authorization. 
  • Complete and submit all Orders per the Provider’s direction, and follow up to make sure the Order is complete. Report all denied or incomplete Orders to the Provider. 
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope of certification and training, under the direction and supervision of a licensed provider, including but not limited to: 
    • Drawing up medications and injections as ordered by the provider, ensuring correct medication, dosage, expiration date and lot number. 
    • Assisting with and performing EKGs, including proper patient preparation, lead placement and documentation. 
    • Suture removal and basic wound care, including cleaning, dressing changes and patient education as directed by the provider. 
    • Monitor patients during and after injection administration and promptly report any adverse reactions or concerns to the provider. 
    • Document all treatment performed in the EMR according to clinic standards.
  • Complete all charting within 24 hours of date of service
  • Act as the liaison between the patient and the provider. 
  • Return all patient phone calls and portal messages the same day and document in each patient’s chart any instructions or concerns, relaying provider instructions and administrative information. Clinical questions are routed to the provider.
  • Work with the Office Manager and his/her designees to ensure that the provider is scheduled appropriately.
  • Communicate with front desk staff any delay in the provider’s schedule for the day.
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with medical supplies and linen. 
  • Clean and empty rooms of dirty linen and red bag waste daily.
  • Clean dirty instruments and prepare them for sterilization on assigned day each week.
  • Perform other responsibilities as may be called on by the Clinical Manager and his/her designees.

Skill and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalence required.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate preferred 
  • CPR Certification required
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Back Office Medical Assistant in an Orthopaedic Medical Office preferred.
  • The ability to type 40 words per minute.
  • Skill in operating a computer and scanner, as well as software programs including Microsoft Outlook.
  • Telephone etiquette, superior customer service, and professional communication skills are required.
  • Must be flexible and able to multitask in a stressful setting. 

Certificates, pre-employment requirements:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate a plus.
  • CPR Certification Required      
  • Required to submit and obtain a negative result in the pre-employment drug screening. 
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Salary Description
$23.00+ Hourly
