Position Summary
PreBorn! is seeking a creative, experienced, and mission-aligned Contract Instructional Designer to develop engaging, effective, and scalable training curricula that support the ministry's mission of glorifying Jesus Christ by saving more babies and souls.
The Instructional Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), ministry leaders, and the Center for Excellence (CFE) team to design, develop, and implement high-quality learning experiences for pregnancy clinic personnel, ministry partners, and other identified audiences.
Curriculum development will include both instructor-led training (ILT), including in-person and virtual delivery, and asynchronous e-learning courses. The successful contractor will translate complex information, processes, and ministry practices into clear, actionable, and engaging educational experiences that promote knowledge retention, skill development, and practical application.
This is a hands-on curriculum development role requiring expertise in adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, learning technologies, and multimedia content creation.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Design & Development
- Design and develop comprehensive training curricula using established instructional design methodologies, including SAM and adult learning principles.
- Partner with SMEs and ministry leadership to identify learning needs, define measurable learning objectives, and establish curriculum requirements.
- Translate existing content, ministry resources, policies, and subject matter expertise into structured learning experiences.
- Develop learning pathways incorporating instructor-led training, virtual instruction, self-paced e-learning, and blended learning approaches.
- Create course outlines, learning objectives, instructional strategies, lesson plans, storyboards, and assessments.
- Ensure consistency in curriculum structure, instructional quality, branding, and learner experience.
- Design training appropriate for audiences with varying levels of experience, knowledge, and technical proficiency.
Instructor-Led Training Development
- Develop facilitator guides, participant workbooks, presentation materials, and supporting instructional resources.
- Incorporate interactive learning activities, group discussions, role-playing, case studies, and practical application exercises.
- Design instructor-led curricula that can be delivered consistently by multiple trainers.
- Create facilitator instructions, timing guides, discussion prompts, and assessment tools.
- Adapt instructor-led materials for both in-person and virtual classroom delivery.
- Develop train-the-trainer resources as needed to support consistent curriculum implementation.
E-Learning Development
- Design and develop interactive, self-paced e-learning modules using industry-standard authoring tools.
- Convert existing instructor-led materials into effective digital learning experiences where appropriate.
- Create engaging multimedia content incorporating video, audio, graphics, knowledge checks, scenarios, and interactive exercises.
- Develop assessments to evaluate learner comprehension, knowledge retention, and practical application.
- Ensure e-learning content is compatible with the organization's Learning Management System (LMS).
- Package and publish courses using applicable standards such as SCORM or xAPI.
- Test courses for functionality, accessibility, usability, and compatibility across devices.
- Develop reusable learning templates and design standards to support future curriculum expansion.
Learning Assessment & Continuous Improvement
- Develop learning assessments, knowledge checks, evaluations, and other tools to measure training effectiveness.
- Apply instructional design best practices to improve learner engagement and knowledge retention.
- Incorporate feedback from SMEs, facilitators, and learners into curriculum revisions.
- Recommend improvements to instructional methods, content organization, and learning delivery.
- Support pilot testing of new courses and make refinements prior to final implementation.
Project Management & Collaboration
- Manage assigned curriculum development projects from initial discovery through final delivery.
- In collaboration with the project manager & CFE Director, establish project milestones, deliverable schedules, and review cycles in collaboration with PreBorn! leadership.
- Coordinate with SMEs to obtain, validate, and organize content.
- Communicate project status, anticipated challenges, and resource needs proactively.
- Maintain organized project documentation, source files, and version controls.
- Deliver completed, editable curriculum assets and supporting documentation according to agreed-upon project specifications.
- Ensure all work aligns with PreBorn!'s mission, values, messaging, and ministry standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning and Development, Educational Technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of demonstrated instructional design and curriculum development experience.
- Proven experience developing both instructor-led training and interactive e-learning courses.
- Strong understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design models, and learning assessment methodologies.
- Proficiency with e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise), Adobe Captivate, or comparable platforms.
- Experience creating facilitator guides, participant materials, presentations, storyboards, and learning assessments.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms and SCORM-compatible course development.
- Strong writing, editing, content organization, and visual communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Experience collaborating with SMEs to translate technical or specialized content into effective training.
- Portfolio demonstrating successful development of instructor-led and e-learning curriculum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing curriculum for nonprofit, ministry, healthcare, pregnancy center, or mission-driven organizations.
- Familiarity with pregnancy center operations, client services, training, or professional development.
- Experience developing competency-based training and certification programs.
- Knowledge of blended learning strategies and virtual instructor-led training.
- Experience with multimedia production, video editing, and graphic design.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards, including WCAG principles.
- Experience designing reusable curriculum frameworks that support organizational growth and scalability.
- Experience developing train-the-trainer programs.
