POSITION SUMMARY:
The MJF Manufacturing Floater provides flexible coverage across Forecast 3D’s Multi Jet Fusion production operation. This employee moves between assigned positions to cover absences, breaks, workload changes, and production bottlenecks while maintaining quality, equipment readiness, material availability, and on-time delivery. The role requires broad technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to transition between hands-on production, computer-based work, and production coordination.
Coverage includes Machine Operator, Media Operator, Finisher, Advanced Finisher, Part Sorter, Program Expeditor, Assembly Technician, and Material Handler. The employee performs each assignment independently after completing the required training and demonstrating proficiency.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Flexible coverage Accept daily assignments from the MJF Manager or Supervisor; coordinate with the receiving department lead, review job priorities, and provide clear status and handoffs when changing assignments.
- Machine operation Prepare MJF printers for scheduled builds; clean and maintain printers, processing stations, and build units; exchange build units and complete approved preventive maintenance. Support printer uptime and OEE goals; promptly report equipment issues.
- Media blasting Blast parts according to job sheets and drawings, remove residual powder, and verify part features and condition. Monitor equipment performance and maintain or change media according to approved specifications.
- Finishing and advanced finishing Finish and assemble parts using approved tools and techniques. Verify features, basic dimensions, and insert locations; perform dyeing and carboniting when trained. Meet specified cosmetic and functional requirements and report questionable parts.
- Light assembly Drill holes using approved tooling, fixtures, and specified dimensions; install dowel pins, alignment pins, light pipes, and other small hardware. Deburr as required and verify fit, orientation, hole dimensions, appearance, and workmanship without damaging components.
- Part sorting Separate parts by build, job, and part identification; verify quantities and preserve job traceability. Inspect for visible defects, document discrepancies and rejected parts, and enter accurate information in the QA database.
- Program expediting Track assigned work orders through post-processing, Quality, and Shipping; maintain daily ship lists and communicate delays, geometry concerns, and scheduling risks to the Project Management team and department leads. Coordinate priorities with department leads and support root cause, corrective action, and RMA activities. Support the program’s on-time delivery target of 95% or better.
- Material handling Maintain virgin and reclaim powder inventory and availability; transfer powder into approved barrels or storage bins and deliver materials where needed. Supply media and consumables, operate media sifting and cleaning equipment, and maintain an organized stockroom using 5S practices.
- Quality and documentation Follow job sheets, drawings, work instructions, and established procedures. Maintain accurate production counts, maintenance records, and required database entries. Identify and segregate nonconforming parts and escalate disposition questions to the responsible lead or Quality.
- Safety and improvement Use required PPE and follow approved procedures for powders, chemicals, equipment, and tools. Keep work areas clean and organized; report hazards and equipment problems. Suggest improvements to reduce downtime, scrap, and delays; document procedures and share knowledge with coworkers as assigned.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, vocational education, or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
- Manufacturing or additive manufacturing experience, with demonstrated ability to learn and perform multiple production roles and complete the required cross-training.
- Ability to read and follow job sheets, drawings, dimensions, and detailed work instructions; strong manual dexterity and attention to quality.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, production records, and QA databases.
- Strong organization, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and with multiple departments, adapt to changing priorities, and provide reliable attendance

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
- Work is performed in a research/light-production environmentally controlled environment.
- Exposure to dust and powder metal/plastic particles will require use of a respirator.
- Occasional exposure to coolants or lubricating solutions, moving machinery, heat, compressed air, and electrical power.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing specific tasks in production areas.
- Exposed to repetitive use of fingers, hands and arms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift) on a manufacturing floor
- Frequent use of hands for handling, sanding, polishing, grinding, and finishing parts
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 25–50 pounds, with or without assistance
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate finishing tools and equipment
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to dust, fumes, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures
- Ability to distinguish colors, finishes, and surface defects as needed for quality inspection
- Sufficient vision (with or without correction) to inspect detailed parts and surfaces
- Ability to safely operate finishing equipment such as grinders, sanders, bead blasters, or similar tools
