Quality Inspector
Job Type
Full-time
Description

Thread-Craft is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Quality Inspector to join our precision manufacturing team in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This role focuses on inspecting precision-machined components, including ballscrews, to ensure products meet engineering specifications, technical drawings, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work, has a strong eye for detail, and is willing to learn new inspection methods, measurement tools, and technologies. We value individuals who take initiative, ask questions, identify opportunities for improvement, and are committed to producing high-quality parts that meet demanding customer expectations.

Requirements

 What you will do

  • Perform hands-on quality inspections of precision-machined components, including ballscrews and related assemblies, to verify conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment to verify dimensional accuracy and product quality.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and technical specifications to determine product acceptance.
  • Identify defects, dimensional discrepancies, and nonconforming products, documenting findings and communicating concerns to the appropriate teams.
  • Complete inspection reports, quality documentation, test results, and nonconformance reports accurately and consistently.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and other departments to investigate quality issues, support root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Verify the accuracy of inspection equipment and measuring instruments, following applicable calibration procedures.
  • Follow established quality procedures and support compliance with applicable industry standards, including AS9100 requirements.
  • Adapt to new technologies, inspection methods, and quality systems as processes and equipment evolve.
  • Take initiative in identifying opportunities to improve inspection processes, product quality, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will accomplish

  • Ensure precision-machined components consistently meet engineering specifications and customer quality expectations.
  • Help prevent defective or nonconforming products from progressing through production or reaching customers.
  • Maintain accurate, traceable quality records that support manufacturing processes, customer requirements, and quality system compliance.
  • Contribute to the production of reliable, high-quality components used in demanding industrial, aerospace, and defense applications.
  • Build strong working relationships with production and engineering teams to resolve quality concerns and improve manufacturing outcomes.
  • Develop your technical knowledge and inspection skills while contributing to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and quality workmanship.

How you will achieve this

You will achieve this by taking ownership of your work, approaching inspections with consistency and attention to detail, and remaining committed to learning and improving. Success in this role requires someone who is willing to put in the effort to understand our products, learn how to interpret technical drawings, become proficient with measurement tools, and adapt to evolving inspection technologies.

We are looking for someone who asks questions when something does not look right, communicates concerns early, follows through on issues, and takes pride in getting the job done correctly. Your initiative and willingness to learn will be just as important as your existing experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or bachelor's degree in quality, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in quality inspection, quality assurance, quality control, precision machining, manufacturing, or a related hands-on technical role is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, dimensional tolerances, and technical specifications, or a willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other dimensional inspection tools is preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, inspection methods, quality control principles, and nonconformance identification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, aerospace manufacturing, defense manufacturing, or other regulated quality environments is beneficial.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, data entry, and electronic recordkeeping, with the ability to learn new software and quality management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize inconsistencies, defects, and potential quality concerns.
  • Good visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform detailed inspections and precise measurements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, engineering, and other team members.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take initiative while knowing when to ask questions or escalate concerns.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, adapt to changing processes, and develop new technical skills.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including production floor settings and other designated work areas.

What makes someone successful in this role?

  • A quality-first mindset and pride in producing accurate, reliable work.
  • A willingness to learn new products, processes, inspection techniques, and technologies.
  • Initiative to identify problems, ask questions, and follow through on solutions.
  • Consistency and accountability when completing inspections and documenting results.
  • The ability to adapt, collaborate, and contribute to a team-focused manufacturing environment.
