Finishing Coordinator

The Finishing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the day-to-day workflow of the Finishing Department to ensure printed products are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. This position works closely with Production, Scheduling, Quality, Shipping, and Finishing personnel to prioritize work, communicate job requirements, monitor production status, and resolve issues that may impact customer delivery.


The Finishing Coordinator serves as a key communication link between the production floor and management and helps ensure that finishing activities align with production schedules, customer specifications, quality requirements, and company standards.


Primary Duties and Essential Functions

  • Coordinate the daily workflow and priorities for finishing operations based on production schedules and customer due dates.
  • Review production schedules, job travelers, work orders, and finish specifications to ensure requirements are understood before production begins.
  • Communicate job priorities, special instructions, and changes to Finishing Operators and other production personnel.
  • Monitor the status of jobs throughout the finishing process and communicate potential delays or production concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Coordinate with Printing, Prepress, Scheduling, Quality, and Shipping to ensure a smooth flow of work through production.
  • Help determine the appropriate finishing process and sequence for jobs based on specifications, equipment capabilities, production requirements, and due dates.
  • Monitor work-in-process and assist with prioritizing jobs to minimize downtime and meet customer deadlines.
  • Verify that finished products meet established quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Identify quality, production, material, equipment, or scheduling issues and escalate concerns to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues and coordinate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure job documentation, production paperwork, labels, counts, and other required information are accurate and complete.
  • Monitor material requirements and communicate shortages or anticipated needs to the appropriate department.
  • Coordinate rework, make ready requirements, and special finishing instructions as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate production counts and reporting information.
  • Communicate changes in job requirements or priorities promptly and accurately.
  • Help ensure equipment, work areas, and production materials are organized and maintained in accordance with company standards.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to productivity, quality, workflow, waste reduction, and customer service.
  • Assist with training and provide work directions to Finishing personnel as assigned.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment and ensure established safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company, employee, customer, and production information.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements

  

  • Knowledge of print manufacturing and finishing processes.
  • Ability to understand job specifications and identify potential production concerns.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on customer requirements and production schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Production, Scheduling, Quality, Shipping, and Management.
  • Ability to remain organized and effective while managing changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to identify and communicate issues before they negatively affect production or delivery.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions 

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the production environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and products as required by the position.
  • Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, moving machinery, noise, and other typical production-environment conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Physical requirements may vary based on the specific responsibilities and work area assigned. Frequent exposure to manufacturing environment with one or more unpleasant or hazardous conditions including but not limited to exposure to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals, etc. 21% to 50% of work time. 
  • Incumbent constantly required to walk, stand, grasp, reach, push/pull, bend, stoop, twisting and use of manual dexterity for prolonged periods of time. 
  • Incumbent regularly required to hear, speak, and use color vision. 
  • Incumbent regularly required to carry and lift up to 50 lbs. 

Work Environment


This position works primarily in a manufacturing and production environment and may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels, moving equipment, production materials, inks, adhesives, and other conditions typical of a print manufacturing facility. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and company policies.
