Senior Graphic Designer
Description

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is seeking a talented, detail-oriented Senior Graphic Designer to join our in-house creative team. Through marketing collateral and a commitment to our brand standards, you will help advance our mission of sharing a love of live music, building community connections, and providing music education in Dallas and beyond. 


Reporting to the Director of Creative Services, you will bring expertise in both print and digital design to high-visibility projects such as brand campaigns, thematic concert designs, and environmental graphics. 


Key Responsibilities 


Strategy-Informed Design Concepts 

  • Create compelling, thoughtful design work with marketing objectives and audiences in mind. 
  • Own complex, multichannel projects from initial concept to final execution, guiding them through key stages such as kickoff meetings, polished presentation decks, design iterations, and detailed asset production. 

Production Design 

  • Split your time evenly between creative and production design. 
  • Bring existing concepts to life across a wide range of applications, including display ads, social graphics, email graphics, brochures, invitations, print ads, direct mail, signage, and more. 
  • Apply expert knowledge of typographic hierarchy, file preparation, and best practices for both digital and print. 

Print Design 

  • Design multipage program books, brochures, and forms in InDesign, presenting large amounts of content in a clear, reader-friendly way. 
  • Build and work from detailed templates, master pages, and paragraph styles. 
  • Bring a thorough knowledge of printing processes, print specifications, paper stocks, quality control, and press checks. 

Collaboration & Processes 

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with team members, in-house clients, freelancers, and printers while upholding and enforcing brand guidelines. 
  • Support internal communications as needed, working closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure project briefs are clear and relaying information to the Director of Creative Services. 

Leadership 

  • Take initiative to keep projects moving, managing your workflow to meet overlapping deadlines and delivering work on time. 
  • Serve as a mentor and creative sounding board for team members and freelance designers. 
  • Offer solutions, propose alternative creative approaches, and help troubleshoot challenges within the Creative Services team. 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or equivalent education and professional experience. 
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant design experience, including production design across print and digital channels. 
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Experience producing multipage InDesign templates using master pages, paragraph styles, and clear content hierarchy. 
  • Self-starter who works efficiently in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. 
  • Openness to learning and ability to quickly apply constructive feedback to active projects. 
  • Curiosity to master best practices, design trends, and current software. 
  • Application submissions must include a portfolio demonstrating relevant digital and print design work, including creative multipage print design, strong typographic hierarchy, branded marketing concepts, print and digital campaign elements, and brand consistency. 

Preferred 

  • Premiere/After Effects familiarity, for video editing, resizing and creation of simple animations. 

Work Environment  

  • Some evening and weekend work is expected to support performances, events, and community engagement efforts.
  • Hybrid work environment.

Salary Description
$65,000 - $70,000
