Description

The Welder is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance activities throughout the facility. This position supports the Maintenance Department in maintaining and repairing the racking system, racks, bows, production equipment, and other equipment used in the galvanizing process.


The Welder must be able to read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols; safely operate welding and cutting equipment; perform quality welds; and work effectively with minimal supervision. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and proper care of company equipment.

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform welding and fabrication work on racks, bows, fixtures, production equipment, and other components used in the galvanizing process.
  • Repair and maintain the facility's racking system and other equipment as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, measurements, and welding symbols to determine proper dimensions, layouts, and welding requirements.
  • Measure, cut, fit, grind, clean, and prepare metal components for welding and fabrication.
  • Select and properly operate appropriate welding and cutting processes and equipment, including MIG, arc welding, plasma cutting, and fuel/oxy-fuel torches.
  • Set up welding equipment and adjust voltage, amperage, gas flow, and other settings as required for the job.
  • Perform welding in various positions, including flat, vertical, and overhead, as required.
  • Inspect completed welds for proper penetration, strength, appearance, and structural integrity.
  • Identify and correct welding defects or fabrication issues to ensure work meets company quality standards.
  • Operate grinders, cutting equipment, plasma cutters, torches, and other hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain welding machines, tools, and equipment in clean and good working condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance as directed.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department with repairs and maintenance activities throughout the facility as assigned.
  • Maintain equipment and devices used in the galvanizing process in safe and proper working condition.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and other assigned work accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, defective materials, or other maintenance issues to the Lead Man or Maintenance Manager.
  • Follow established welding procedures and company standards for quality and safety.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmets, gloves, protective clothing, eye and face protection, and other required safety equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store tools and equipment after use.
  • Follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision when required.
  • Maintain effective and professional working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform other duties and assist in other areas of the Maintenance Department as assigned.
Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Welding certification or formal welding training preferred.
  • Three to five years of related welding, fabrication, or industrial maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Working knowledge of welding procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Experience with MIG and arc welding required; experience with TIG welding is a plus.
  • Experience operating plasma cutters and fuel/oxy-fuel torches.
  • Ability to read and understand basic blueprints, drawings, measurements, and welding symbols.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting equipment, and welding equipment.
  • Ability to identify welding defects and perform necessary repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must provide and maintain a basic set of personal welding tools as required by the Company.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety and quality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work with heavy metal components and materials.
  • Ability to work in hot, dusty, noisy, and industrial environments.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined or difficult-to-access areas when required.
  • Must have sufficient vision and hand-eye coordination to safely perform welding and fabrication duties.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is an in-person, industrial manufacturing position located at a galvanizing facility in Houston, Texas. The Welder will work throughout the plant and maintenance areas and may be exposed to heat, fumes, dust, noise, moving equipment, and varying weather conditions.

Strict adherence to company safety procedures and the proper use of PPE is required at all times.

Safety is an essential part of this position. The Welder is expected to:

  • Follow all Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with OSHA requirements and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Use all required PPE and safety equipment.
  • Follow proper hot-work, welding, cutting, and fire-prevention procedures.
  • Inspect welding and cutting equipment before use and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Report accidents, injuries, equipment damage, and safety hazards to management promptly.
