We're looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join our corporate team in Phoenix, AZ. In this role, you'll lead a team of accounting professionals, oversee critical accounts receivable and payable functions, and strengthen the systems and processes that support our growing portfolio of communities.

What You'll Do
Lead and Develop the Accounting Team
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, providing direction, coaching, and support to accounting associates across multiple functions and locations.
- Lead accounts receivable activities while supporting accounts payable operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistent service.
- Establish clear expectations, strengthen accountability, and create opportunities for team training and professional development.
- Foster a collaborative, people-first environment where team members feel supported and take ownership of their work.
Oversee Financial Operations and Reporting
- Provide oversight of accounts receivable functions, including billing, cash receipts, deposits, collections, refunds, owner transfers, and developer and builder transactions.
- Support accounts payable processes, including vendor payments, tax-related transactions, and annual reporting requirements.
- Monitor delinquency cycles, ensuring compliance with association governing documents and established collection procedures.
- Prepare and review financial and operational reporting, tracking key accounting metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with senior accounting leadership on general ledger maintenance, account research, internal controls, and audit support.
- Help ensure accurate financial records and timely communication with internal teams, community stakeholders, and external partners.
Strengthen Systems and Processes
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Support the implementation, administration, and ongoing improvement of accounting and community management software platforms.
- Develop and document procedures, provide systems training, and help team members make effective use of available technology.
- Leverage technology and reporting tools to streamline work, improve visibility, and support informed decision-making.
- Maintain strong internal controls and help ensure accounting practices remain consistent across communities.
Support Community Growth and Partnerships
- Lead accounting setup and onboarding for new communities and association phases, including owner records, balances, assessments, vendors, and collection processes.
- Partner with community leadership, developers, vendors, banking partners, and internal teams to resolve accounting matters and support community needs.
- Interpret association governing documents and apply financial policies consistently and accurately.
- Approach challenges with transparency, collaboration, and a commitment to resolving issues rather than simply passing them along.
- Practice responsible financial stewardship that protects the long-term interests of Cohere and the communities we serve.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of management or general accounting experience, including at least 3 years of direct responsibility for accounts receivable within community management.
- 3–5 years of experience leading accounting teams, including oversight of large, multifunctional teams across multiple locations, with at least 2 years of direct accounts receivable team management required.
- 2+ years of experience in HOA, property management, or community management accounting required.
- Strong knowledge of accounts receivable operations, billing, collections, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required.
- Strong technical aptitude and experience working across multiple business platforms, databases, and collaborative tools. Familiarity with platforms such as SharePoint, Monday.com, or similar systems is valuable.
- Experience identifying process improvements, implementing new workflows, and training teams on accounting systems.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with Vantaca accounting software.
- Experience with 1099 and 1096 reporting, 1120-H tax returns, and financial audits.
- Familiarity with community association governance, real estate transactions, owner transfers, and property disclosures.
Additional Requirements
- This is a full-time position based in Phoenix, AZ.
- Hybrid eligibility is available following the probationary period, with an expectation of working onsite at our Phoenix corporate office 2–3 days per week.
- Regular in-person collaboration is an important part of this role.
- Relocation assistance is not available.
