About Century Therapeutics:
Century Therapeutics (NASDAQ: IPSC) is a biotechnology company advancing a pipeline of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell therapies with the potential to meaningfully address autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes, and cancer. The company’s therapies are derived from its iPSC cell foundry and leverage its novel immune evasion engineering technology, Allo-Evasion™. Century believes its approach to developing off-the-shelf cell therapies will expand patient access and provide advantages over existing cell therapies which will ultimately advance the course of care.
Role:
Century Therapeutics is seeking an Engineer who is self-motivated, innovative, and results-oriented to develop, characterize, implement, and support Century’s next generation of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell therapies. The successful candidate will be expected to culture, differentiate, and characterize induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and their effector cell derivatives, design and perform process/product development studies, and analyze, interpret, and trend data. This role requires extensive collaboration with internal and external teams. The successful candidate will need strong scientific background, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other groups across organizations.
The work expectation for this role is 5 days per-week on-site.
The expected annual salary range for this role is approximately $130,000 - $150,000 depending on experience. Additional benefits offered include but are not limited to an annual performance-based bonus (prorated by start date), medical, dental, and vision insurance, matching 401K plan, and 20+ days per-year of PTO (prorated by start date). Additionally, employees not requiring sponsorship are preferred.
Candidate responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Execute high-quality cell culture and differentiation experiments, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and adherence to established protocols.
• Design and execute bioreactor studies to understand the impact of process parameters such as agitation, mixing, aeration, feeding strategy, media composition, cell/aggregate density, and vessel scale on cell growth, differentiation, yield, and product quality.
• Perform and analyze flow cytometry assays, interpret and present data to guide ongoing research and development efforts.
• Analyze process and product data to identify relationships between critical process parameters, cell attributes, and differentiation outcomes and use these insights to drive process improvements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Drug Product Development, Analytical Development, Manufacturing/MSAT, Quality, and other teams to support process integration, technology transfer, and clinical manufacturing readiness.
• Maintain detailed and organized electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), documenting procedures, observations, data analysis, and conclusions in compliance with internal quality standards.
• Stay current with emerging literature and technologies related to iPSC biology, beta-cell/islet differentiation, bioreactor processing, cell therapy manufacturing, and process scale-up.
• Author and review CMC documents for regulatory filings (e.g. IND, BLA) in collaboration with other parts of organization.
• Foster a collaborative and scientifically rigorous team culture.
Qualifications:
• BS, MS, or PhD degree in a relevant biological, technical, or cell engineering field with the following relevant professional experience: PhD: 0-2 years, MS: 8-10 years, BS: 10-12 years
Requirements:
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and bioreactor-based processing, including operation, experimental design, process monitoring, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with media/feed optimization and design of experiments to improve cell growth, differentiation, yield, and process robustness.
• Strong understanding of cell biology and physiology; experience with iPSCs, stem-cell differentiation, pancreatic/beta-cell biology, or other complex differentiation processes is highly desirable.
• Understanding of bioprocess characterization, technology transfer, process validation concepts, cGMP, and GLP.
• Experience supporting translation of development processes into GMP manufacturing environments is desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate technical findings and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail, scientific rigor, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize and execute across multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
