Stabbert Marine & Industrial is a family-owned company specializing in vessel repair, construction, and industrial solutions. With two full-service shipyards, in Ballard and Anacortes, and a commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, we deliver reliable marine services that keep the maritime industry moving forward.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to own and lead our multi-year capital and facility improvement project pipeline (currently mapped out 5–8 years) across our Ballard and Anacortes locations. This role is dedicated to larger construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects — it does not replace or absorb the day-to-day facility management already handled at each site. The Superintendent owns project scope, budget, schedule, and contractor/subcontractor coordination for each project in the pipeline, working alongside site leadership to sequence work with minimal disruption to daily operations. The role is expected to have strong hands-on trade knowledge — carpentry and general construction background preferred — and the ability to step in and perform or demonstrate work when needed, but the core of this role is project leadership across a sustained, multi-year program, not full-time hands-on labor or routine facility upkeep. The ideal candidate can run multiple concurrent capital projects across two locations, manage outside contractors and subcontractors effectively, and keep leadership informed of cost, schedule, and risk without needing close supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project & Program Management
• Scope, plan, and execute the facility and capital improvement projects at both locations as prioritized and approved by the General Manager and leadership team.
• Develop project budgets, cost estimates, and schedules; track actual spend against budget and report variances and recommended corrective action to management.
• Identify, vet, and manage outside contractors, subcontractors, and vendors for specialized work; solicit, compare, and evaluate bids and quotes.
• Coordinate procurement of materials, tools, and equipment for facility projects, including negotiating pricing and delivery timelines.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for facility project status, budget, schedule, and risk with the General Manager and other leadership.
• Identify changes in project scope early, document additional work, and communicate cost and schedule impacts to leadership before proceeding.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including scopes of work, change orders, budgets, schedules, and required permits.
• Ensure required permits, inspections, and code compliance are secured for facility and construction projects at both locations.
Field Leadership & Hands-On Support
• Directly perform or assist with carpentry, general construction, and repair work as needed — particularly on smaller projects, urgent issues, or where specialized trade skill is required.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and direction to carpenters, maintenance staff, contractors, and other assigned personnel.
• Inspect ongoing and completed work at both locations to verify workmanship, safety, and compliance with specifications.
• Diagnose facility and construction issues and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
• Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, schematics, and project specifications.
Cross-Site Coordination & Safety
• Travel regularly between Ballard and Anacortes to oversee active capital projects and coordinate with site teams; travel cadence will follow the active project schedule rather than a fixed daily split.
• Coordinate directly with each location's Facilities Manager to sequence capital project work around day-to-day site operations, share relevant site history/context, and avoid disruption to routine facility functions.
• Ensure all work performed by employees, contractors, and subcontractors complies with OSHA and company safety, environmental, and quality assurance requirements.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas on active project sites and ensure proper storage and handling of project materials, tools, and equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in construction, facilities, or capital project management, including direct responsibility for budgets, schedules, and subcontractor coordination.
• Experience managing a rolling portfolio of multiple projects over a multi-year horizon, not just single, standalone jobs.
• Prior experience in a foreman, superintendent, project manager, or comparable leadership role required.
• Strong background in carpentry, general construction, or a related trade; shipyard or marine industry experience preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, tracking costs against estimates, and coordinating outside contractors and vendors.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
• Working knowledge of project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore, or similar) and general proficiency with spreadsheets and email.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across two locations and shift priorities based on operational needs.
• Strong communication skills; comfortable coordinating with executives, site leadership, employees, vendors, and contractors.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between Ballard and Anacortes.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and industrial/shipyard safety practices.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade certification, apprenticeship completion, or construction management education preferred.
• Forklift, man-lift, or other equipment certifications a plus.

Job Requirements
• Successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.

• Comply with all applicable OSHA requirements and company safety, environmental, security, and quality assurance policies.
• Work independently and exercise sound judgment in planning, executing, and overseeing assigned projects with minimal direct supervision.
• Work overtime or adjusted schedules as necessary to meet project deadlines and operational needs.
• Travel regularly between Ballard and Anacortes, including same-day travel between sites as needed.
• Operate trucks and other equipment as required and authorized.
• Work safely in and around vessels, docks, water, elevated surfaces, and active industrial/shipyard operations.
Physical and Environmental Demands
• Frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, and communicate verbally; regularly travel by vehicle between sites.
• Occasionally reach, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, and crawl while performing hands-on trade or inspection work.
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Work outdoors and in varying weather conditions at two industrial waterfront locations.
• Occasionally work in areas with limited ventilation or in confined or restricted spaces.
• Occasional exposure to noise, dust, machinery, tools, and active industrial/shipyard equipment.
