Radiology Coder
Fully Remote
Description

Healthrise is seeking experienced, U.S.-based Radiology Coders to support our revenue cycle services in either Diagnostic Radiology or Interventional Radiology (IR). Each coder works within a single specialty track.

Coders translate radiology and procedural documentation into accurate, compliant claims data. Success in the role comes down to coding precision, steady production, and sound judgment on documentation gaps, with the goal of cleaner claims and fewer downstream denials.

Duties and Responsibilities

Core Coding Operations

• Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Healthrise Core Values in all interactions with team members, clients, and stakeholders.

• Review radiology reports and supporting documentation and assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and applicable modifier codes.

• Meet established productivity and accuracy benchmarks, to be defined with the client.

• Query providers when documentation is unclear, incomplete, or conflicting, and track query responses to resolution.

• Maintain the confidentiality and security of PHI in accordance with HIPAA and client requirements.

Diagnostic Radiology Track

• Code diagnostic imaging services including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and mammography.

• Apply professional and technical component (-26/-TC) rules as applicable to the client's billing model.

• Assign appropriate modifiers and laterality, contrast, and bilateral/multiple-procedure indicators.

Interventional Radiology Track

• Code image-guided, vascular, and non-vascular interventional procedures, including selective catheterization, imaging guidance, and supervision and interpretation components.

• Apply bundling rules and appropriately report add-on codes and multiple-procedure scenarios.

• Distinguish separately reportable services from those included in the primary procedure based on operative documentation.

Compliance, Quality, and Continuous Improvement

• Apply NCCI edits, CMS and AMA guidelines, and payer-specific policies to ensure compliant coding.

• Participate in quality audits, feedback sessions, and ongoing education, and incorporate feedback into daily work.

• Identify and escalate trends in denials, documentation gaps, or coding issues to project leadership.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Active professional coding credential in good standing, such as CPC, CCS, or CCS-P.

• Minimum 2 years of recent, hands-on experience in radiology coding (Diagnostic Radiology track) or interventional radiology coding (IR track).

• Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS Level II, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and NCCI edits.

• Located in and authorized to work in the United States.

• Availability to commit to the full six-month minimum engagement.

• Reliable high-speed internet and a secure workspace that meets HIPAA requirements.

• Completion of regulatory/mandatory certifications as required.

Preferred

• Certified Interventional Radiology and Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), strongly preferred for the IR track.

• Experience with major EHR and encoder platforms (Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, 3M, Optum, or equivalent).

• Prior contract or project-based coding experience.

• Experience with both professional-fee and facility coding.

• Demonstrated accuracy rate of 95% or higher.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Work Environment: Remote home office; U.S.-based candidates only. Must maintain a secure, HIPAA-compliant workspace and be comfortable adapting quickly to client systems and workflows.

• Physical Demands: This is largely a sedentary role involving prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, using keyboard, mouse, and other devices to navigate coding and software systems.

• Communication: Ability to communicate clearly by phone, email, and video conference with project leadership, providers, and client stakeholders.

• Schedule: Standard business hours. Occasional extended hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines or volume surges.
