About the Role

This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage responsibilities from initial transaction through general ledger reconciliation.

Primary responsibilities include fixed assets, corporate credit card administration, and payroll-related accounting, while also supporting cash management, month-end close, financial reporting, and audit activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fixed Assets: Own the fixed asset lifecycle, including additions, capitalization, depreciation, transfers, disposals, and retirements. Maintain complete records and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger monthly.
  • Review purchases for appropriate capitalization or expense treatment in accordance with company policy and GAAP. Prepare journal entries with supporting documentation and support asset verification and audit requests.
  • Cash Management: Support cash reporting, bank reconciliations, recurring payment tracking, and other cash-management activities. Research and resolve unidentified or unreconciled cash activity before recording transactions.
  • Corporate Credit Cards: Administer corporate credit card programs, including cardholder setup, maintenance, account changes, and compliance. Review activity for appropriate coding, documentation, approvals, and adherence to company policy.
  • Reconcile credit card activity to statements and the general ledger, investigate discrepancies through resolution, and ensure transactions are recorded in the appropriate period. Serve as a primary resource for employee and management questions.
  • Payroll Accounting: Prepare payroll-related journal entries and accruals to the general ledger (Payroll is prepared by separate Payroll Dep’t using UKG); reconcile payroll-related balance sheet and expense accounts, including payroll liabilities and accrued payroll. Review payroll information for completeness, reasonableness, and proper accounting treatment.
  • Coordinate with HR, Operations, and third-party payroll providers to resolve discrepancies. Support payroll audits and reporting requirements while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Close and Reporting: Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, investigate unusual activity, and complete assigned responsibilities accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Ensure transactions comply with GAAP and company accounting policies. Support financial statement preparation, management reporting, and external audit requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Maintain organized, auditable documentation and standardized procedures. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls; support system enhancements and special projects.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Senior Accountant takes end-to-end ownership of assigned processes and understands how their work impacts the general ledger and financial statements. This individual completes work accurately, maintains complete supporting documentation, investigates discrepancies, and communicates issues proactively.

  • Apply GAAP, company policies, and sound accounting judgment; research issues and ask appropriate questions rather than relying on assumptions.
  • Independently reconcile accounts, identify root causes, and follow issues through resolution. Escalate significant issues or risks promptly.
  • Manage recurring deadlines, competing priorities, and outstanding items without requiring repeated follow-up.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with accounting and non-accounting personnel, and collaborate across Accounting, Finance, HR, and Operations.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, new systems, evolving processes, and the needs of a growing organization.
