Senior Experience Designer
Fully Remote
Description

JANSON, named to the Inc. 5000 (2026) as one of the fastest-growing privately held businesses, is recognized for delivering excellent service to the military customers we support both domestically and abroad.

At JANSON, design is not decoration—it is mission enablement. The environments we create help military personnel train more effectively, collaborate more efficiently, build stronger communities, and feel valued for their service. Every project is an opportunity to improve the daily experience of those who support and defend our nation.

As JANSON expands nationally and internationally, this role will help shape the future of military modernization, workplace transformation, and immersive environment design, working alongside a team that believes creativity can drive meaningful impact.

Position Summary

The Senior Experience Designer is the senior creative voice on JANSON’s Experience Design team. The role owns conceptual design on our most consequential projects—military headquarters, command and signal facilities, dining facilities, training and collaboration environments, and large-scale modernization programs in the US and Europe—and carries that intent through to construction with the architectural rigor, visualization quality, and storytelling that distinguish JANSON’s work.

This is a designer-architect hybrid. The role requires a formally trained design professional who can originate spatial and experiential concepts, resolve them as buildable architecture and interiors, and communicate them through photorealistic rendering, animation, and presentation at a level that wins customer approval on the first pass. Beyond individual output, the Senior Experience Designer sets the visualization and production standard for the team, leads adoption human-centered and technology enabled design workflows, and mentors designers across the studio.

Unlike traditional commercial design roles, the work directly influences how Warfighters and government professionals learn, collaborate, train, dine, and perform every day.

Key Responsibilities

Concept Leadership (Develop phase)

• Lead conceptual design for assigned projects from customer intent through concept approval, producing the before/after concept package that anchors each engagement.

• Translate Commander’s Intent, mission requirements, and operational constraints into spatial, branded, and experiential concepts that balance aesthetics, function, and operational reality.

• Present concepts to military and government leadership, facilitate design decisions, and manage concept revision cycles within the Develop phase budget.

Architectural and Interior Design (Refine and Finalize phases)

• Develop approved concepts into architectural and interior design solutions: space planning, custom architectural features, millwork and furniture concepts, material and finish selection, lighting intent, environmental graphics, and wayfinding.

• Produce and direct design development, material callouts, control drawings, and graphics packages that communicate intent clearly to general contractors, fabricators, and customer project teams.

• Participate in design reviews, value-engineering sessions, and constructability discussions; protect creative intent while ensuring designs can be fabricated, installed, and maintained.

• Support field implementation, respond to RFIs and design questions during construction, and resolve as-built conditions during the Sustain phase.

Visualization and Storytelling

• Create photorealistic renderings, animations, fly-throughs, and presentation media that convey the experience of a space before it is built.

• Apply art-direction judgment to composition, lighting, materiality, and narrative so every deliverable advances the customer’s decision, not just their understanding.

• Own the visual quality bar for the team’s customer-facing design packages.

Practice Leadership and technology enabled Workflows

• Establish, document, and maintain the team’s 3D modeling, rendering, and production workflows, including file standards, asset libraries, and render pipelines.

• Lead the appropriate integration of AI-assisted tools (image generation, concept iteration, render enhancement) into the design process.

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to designers and production staff; review work for design quality, technical accuracy, and constructability.

• Contribute to proposals and scoping by estimating design effort, defining deliverables, and producing pursuit visuals.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Industrial Design (Master of Architecture preferred).

• 15+ years of progressive professional experience spanning architecture or interior design and architectural visualization, including senior or lead responsibility for a visualization studio, design team, or production workflow.

• Portfolio demonstrating original spatial and experiential concepts carried through to built work, together with photorealistic rendering and animation of the highest professional standard.

• Expert proficiency in 3ds Max with Corona or V-Ray, plus Rhino, AutoCAD, and Twinmotion or comparable real-time tools; advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro.

• Demonstrated experience introducing AI-assisted processes into a professional design or visualization workflow.

• Experience producing construction documentation and coordinating with contractors and fabricators.

• Proven ability to lead small teams, set technical standards, and mentor junior staff.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior military and government leadership.

• US citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain access to US military installations; work supports Department of Defense contracts.

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 10–20%).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing exhibit, museum, retail, or hospitality environments where narrative and brand are integral to the space.

• Recognized creative achievement (awards, publications, juried competitions) in design, visualization, or art direction.

• Experience with environmental impact or visual simulation work, public-sector customers, or federal procurement.

• Experience scoping, budgeting, and bidding creative work.

Growth Path

This role is positioned as the senior rung of JANSON’s Experience Design technical track. Sustained performance at this level—in concept leadership, practice standards, and customer impact—establishes the basis for advancement to Principal Experience Designer and, as the Facilities & Experience business grows, to a Creative Director role with responsibility for creative leadership within the studio.
