Noisy Creek is looking for a talented, detail-oriented designer to help bring our publications, campaigns, and creative projects to life across print and digital platforms. This is an opportunity for an emerging designer with a strong creative eye and a solid foundation in design fundamentals. You’ll collaborate with our creative team to produce editorial layouts, advertising, marketing materials, and other assets for our family of publications, including The Stranger, Portland Mercury, and Chicago Reader.
We’re looking for someone who pairs precision and discipline with creativity and initiative—someone who understands the rules of good design, knows when to break them, and takes pride in getting the details right. You should be comfortable working within established visual systems while bringing fresh thinking to the work, exploring multiple creative directions, and recognizing opportunities to make a project better. You’ll take ownership of your assignments, manage the details with care, and help ensure our creative team produces consistently excellent work. This is an entry-level position, but the work matters, and we’re looking for someone whose talent, curiosity, and drive will make a meaningful contribution from day one.

- Creating and maintaining Google Slides decks
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Someone who strives to get the job done right the first time
- Solid understanding of design fundamentals, especially with typography, hierarchy, and spacing
- Knowledge of using the grid but also knowing when to break the grid
- Disciplined enough to let best practice guide you, but daring enough to know when to break all the rules
- Initiative to take on tasks before being asked to do them
- Ability to work as a team player but also works well independently
- Curiosity mindset
- Ability to build out multiple project iterations at the beginning to showcase a variety of design directions
