Why This Role Matters
Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. We impact the lives of Club members, primarily ages 6 to 18, by focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and community engagement, and job readiness with earning potential. We are nationally recognized for the high-quality of our programs and comprehensive approach to serving youth. Whether you’re joining our administrative team, a Clubhouse team, a School-Based Club team, or our Camp Mendocino team, you’ll be surrounded by enthusiastic, talented, and passionate colleagues who wake up every day ready to inspire young people to reach their full potential.
What You’ll Do
The Citywide Director of Education sets the vision for academic programming across all BGCSF Clubhouses and School-Based Clubs. Leading the Education Department, you’ll develop curriculum and program standards, coach education staff, manage the department budget, and build partnerships with SFUSD and other education organizations, so every Club member has strong academic support through high school graduation and beyond. Your time is split across strategy, partnerships, and resources (30%), academic vision and program quality (25%), team leadership and Club support (25%), and Citywide education events (20%).
- Set academic strategy — Forecast and plan improvements across all academic programs and support services, aligning them with the Strategic Plan’s Academic Success goals, SFUSD curriculum, National Common Core, and State of California Standards.
- Build education partnerships — Maintain strong partnerships with SFUSD, charter and private schools, and youth-serving organizations, and keep leadership and staff informed on SFUSD trends such as attendance, IEP/ELL support, grade progression, graduation rates, and college admissions.
- Measure and share outcomes — Track and analyze data in MyClubHub (Salesforce), surveys, and assessments to drive continuous improvement, and share education outcomes with key stakeholders and in organizational reporting.
- Manage department resources — Own the Education Department budget, including invoicing and payments to Citywide partners, allocate funds equitably across Clubs, and partner with the Development and Institutional Giving Departments to pursue new revenue for academic programs.
- Set program standards — Lead the process of setting Academic Success program standards, evaluate program quality and implementation at the Clubs, and use Club staff feedback to strengthen programs.
- Develop curriculum and resources — Lead the creation of Academic Success curricula, activities, and strategies, documented in the official BGCSF Program Plan template, and keep the education section of the Program Plan library current, accessible, and in use.
- Lead and grow the education team — Supervise and coach the Manager of College Success, build and retain a strong team through hiring, onboarding, and coaching, and lead monthly Citywide education meetings.
- Support Clubs directly — Partner with the Director of School-Based Clubs on alignment and resource sharing, guide Clubs through the annual Action Planning process, observe and coach staff, run regular pulse checks, and recognize education staff.
- Oversee scholarships — Manage BGCSF’s internal scholarship program, including the application and selection process, and share external scholarship resources.
- Lead Citywide education events — Plan and execute the High School Fair, College Tours, and Senior Celebration, managing logistics, timelines, and budgets, partnering with Club staff to recruit members and families, and evaluating each event with attendance and participant feedback.
