Why This Role Matters

Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. We impact the lives of Club members, primarily ages 6 to 18, by focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and community engagement, and job readiness with earning potential. We are nationally recognized for the high quality of our programs and comprehensive approach to serving youth. Whether you’re joining our administrative team, a Clubhouse team, a School-Based Club team, or our Camp Mendocino team, you’ll be surrounded by enthusiastic, talented, and passionate colleagues who wake up every day ready to inspire young people to reach their full potential.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Vice President of Club Services, the Facilities Director keeps BGCSF’s eight Clubhouses (including the one that houses our Administrative Office) safe, functional, and well-maintained, with occasional light work at our six School-Based Clubs. You’ll supervise two maintenance staff, oversee a 20-vehicle fleet and our contracted janitorial service, and manage repair and maintenance vendors, contracts, and budgets. This is a hands-on role where you plan and track the work and also pick up the tools, with time split across project management (40%), maintenance and inspection (40%), and administration (20%).

  • Manage facility projects — Identify needed projects, build budget timelines, assess and accept contractor bids, and sign off on finished work, scheduling major projects during winter and summer breaks when Clubs are empty.
  • Lead the maintenance team — Schedule work for, guide, and review the performance of two maintenance staff, and support volunteer groups completing facility projects.
  • Oversee vendors and the fleet — Manage the contracted janitorial service, including custodian oversight and supply ordering, and schedule maintenance and repairs for a 20-vehicle fleet that directors manage day-to-day.
  • Perform hands-on repairs — Handle general repairs, facility emergencies, preventive maintenance, rough and finish carpentry, furniture repair, basic plumbing and electrical work, painting, and furniture and equipment moves.
  • Inspect and protect facilities — Conduct regular facility audits and periodic safety inspections, partner with Clubhouse Directors to identify maintenance and emergency needs, and monitor security, alarm, and fire systems.
  • Own the facilities budget — Manage the building, maintenance, and vehicle repair budget with the VP of Club Services and CFO; review utility reports and facility expenses; and sign off on invoices and monthly expense reports.
  • Manage contracts and schedules — Administer vendor contracts in detail and keep projects on time, on budget, and on track against the yearly schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records — Process requests through the online facility maintenance system, track completed jobs, and keep the vehicle database and inventories of vehicles, equipment, and tools current.
  • Communicate with stakeholders — Share work priorities and updates with staff, leadership, and the Board Facilities Committee.
