What We Are Looking For

SIRE is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team. The Project Manager owns the delivery of all projects at the plant, from small maintenance and process improvement projects to large capital and construction projects. Every project is expected to land on budget, on schedule and on scope. Tight budget control is the top priority of this role. The Project Manager uses proven project controls methods and tools to set a realistic baseline, track cost and schedule closely, control changes, and close projects out cleanly.

We are looking for an engineer with strong business sense who wants to grow and manage larger groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage plant projects from start to finish, including capital, construction, equipment installation, process improvement, and shutdown/outage projects.
  • Define project scope, develop cost estimates, and prepare business cases for management approval.
  • Build and manage project budgets and schedules, tracking costs and progress and reporting status to the Engineering Manager and plant leadership.
  • Run a formal change control process to prevent scope creep and keep projects on budget and on schedule.
  • Prepare bid packages, evaluate competitive bids, negotiate contracts, and build a strong network of qualified contractors and vendors.
  • Oversee contractors on site and hold them accountable for safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Identify and manage project risks, and enforce SIRE safety requirements and processes such as MOC and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, and Accounting to minimize production impact and make sure new equipment is reliable and maintainable.
  • Close out projects completely, including commissioning, final costs, updated drawings, and documentation handed over to Maintenance and Operations.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams and support annual capital planning and plant-wide cost reduction efforts.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with the following:

• Scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Smartsheet or similar. Able to build and manage baseline schedules with critical path.

• Cost tracking: Advanced Excel. Experience tracking budget, commitments, actuals and forecast at completion. Earned value management (cost and schedule performance) preferred.

• ERP/CMMS: Experience using an ERP or CMMS system to create purchase orders and track project costs.

• Construction management software: Procore or similar preferred.

• Drawings: Ability to read and mark up drawings and P&IDs. AutoCAD experience preferred.

• Methods: Work breakdown structure, cost estimating with contingency, stage-gate approvals, change control, risk registers and formal project closeout.

Qualifications

• Proven record of delivering industrial projects on budget, on schedule and on scope.

• Strong financial skills, including estimating, budgeting, forecasting and building a business case.

• Experience writing bid packages, evaluating bids and negotiating with contractors.

• Ability to manage several projects at once, ranging from small to large.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable presenting to plant leadership.

• Strong leadership skills and a desire to grow and manage larger groups.

• Organized, disciplined and detail-oriented, with strong documentation habits.

• Valid driver’s license required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, mechanical, electrical, civil or agricultural/biological) required.

• Minimum 3 years of experience managing projects in an industrial, manufacturing or process plant setting.

• Experience managing projects over $1M preferred. Experience with projects over $10M is a plus.

• PMP certification preferred, or willingness to obtain it within 2 years.

• EIT/PE preferred.

• Ethanol, renewable fuels or other process industry experience preferred.
