Product Lead
Sacramento, CA • Business Development
Job Type
Full-time
Description

Balanced Body is an energetic, environmentally sensitive company that is growing! Balanced Body leads the world in providing Pilates equipment and education.

This role requires hands-on experience with discrete, manufactured products — not software, SaaS, apps, or other digital products. Candidates whose product background is entirely digital will not have the manufacturing exposure this role requires.

What is the role

We are looking for a Product Lead to own product strategy across Balanced Body's product lines. You will set the product roadmap, decide what stays in the line and what gets cut, and define positioning, pricing, and features for new and existing products. This is a strategic ownership role — you decide what gets built and why.

You will work closely with our Program Manager (Manufacturing), who owns execution once product direction is set. The two roles operate as peers: you are not their manager, and they independently own how initiatives get delivered once you've defined what they are and why they matter.

In addition to ongoing roadmap and portfolio management, you'll lead several new product initiatives currently in development, spanning both hard goods and soft goods categories. You will also build Balanced Body's formal innovation cycle — a repeatable process the company will use going forward to source, evaluate, and prioritize new product ideas.

This is a product strategy role, but it is grounded in hands-on manufacturing experience. You should have worked directly on discrete physical products — materials, bills of materials, tooling, supplier and factory relationships, production feasibility, cost, and lead times — so that your roadmap and pricing decisions reflect how things are actually made.

What you'll do

  • Own and maintain the product roadmap across Balanced Body's product lines.
  • Make portfolio decisions on what products to keep, cut, or refresh, and define positioning, pricing, and feature sets for each.
  • Lead new product initiatives from concept through definition, including several projects currently in development across hard goods and soft goods categories.
  • Partner with the Program Manager (Manufacturing) as a peer: you define product direction and requirements; they own execution, scheduling, and cross-functional delivery. This role does not direct the Program Manager's day-to-day work.
  • Design and implement a formal, repeatable innovation cycle for Balanced Body — a standard process for sourcing, evaluating, and prioritizing new product concepts across the organization.
  • Use customer feedback, market research, and competitive analysis to inform roadmap, pricing, and positioning decisions.
  • Partner with engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing early in concept development to validate feasibility, materials, tooling, cost, and production constraints before committing a product to the roadmap.
  • Partner with marketing and sales to align product positioning and pricing with go-to-market strategy.
  • Present roadmap, portfolio, and pricing recommendations to leadership for approval.
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert on product strategy and the reasoning behind product decisions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

 What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Required: hands-on experience with discrete, manufactured products — working directly with engineering, suppliers, and production on materials, bills of materials, tooling, cost, and lead times from concept through manufacturing. Candidates whose product experience is limited to software, SaaS, apps, or other digital products will not meet this requirement.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management or product strategy for physical/consumer product lines. [Years threshold is a placeholder — confirm before posting.]
  • Demonstrated experience owning a product roadmap and making portfolio decisions (add, cut, or reposition) for a physical product line.
  • Experience with pricing strategy and feature/positioning decisions for consumer products.
  • Experience building or improving a structured product development or innovation process is a plus.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; comfortable partnering with a peer-level Program Manager without direct authority over their execution.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to present and defend roadmap and pricing decisions to leadership.
