GMB is currently seeking a Communications Campaign Specialist. The role is uniquely positioned to impact our client and education communities in the state of Michigan. This role supports fast-paced campaigns for multiple clients to help K-12 public school districts develop informational ballot proposal campaigns.

Why Work with us?
This is the part where most job descriptions jump into the responsibilities and requirements for the role being posted - and we'll get there shortly! But we like to start with the why instead of the what.

Our purpose is helping build strong communities through educational opportunity. We focus on projects within the educational ecosystem, from Pre-K through Higher Education and spaces in our community that support lifelong learning. Our integrated team gets to work together on a wide range of project types – building design, performance engineering, communications campaigns, branding, enrollment marketing, financial analysis, projections and planning – and we're proud of the impact that our work has on the lives and trajectories of students across the United States. Will you join us?

As a Communications Campaign Specialist with GMB you will:

  • Develop and implement campaign communication strategies for external client projects.
  • Work closely with internal and external teams to align campaign communication plans with campaign goals.
  • Work closely with the campaign planning team, K-12 Practice Lead, and internal teams to develop content for the web and social media to elevate campaigns.
  • Draft op-eds, press releases, fact sheets, mailings, and other materials.
  • Join a team of professionals who are passionate about the growth of education in our communities.
  • Interact with clients through meetings and discussions.
  • Travel throughout Michigan as needed. GMB's ample flexibility options will be available to help balance travel and work hours outside of a standard 8:00 - 5:00 schedule.

What type of knowledge do I need to succeed in this role?

More than a specific degree and exact number of years of experience, we're most excited about what kind of knowledge you bring. For this role, we are seeking someone who can co-own projects and own pieces of larger projects with decreasing guidance and who takes initiative through iterating on existing processes. Some components that may help indicate you are at this knowledge milestone include more tangible items like:

  • 8-10 years of professional experience / robust internship experience in one or more of the following areas: media, strategic communications, digital communications, public relations, or professional experience working on electoral or advocacy campaigns
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to communicate persuasively and professionally in writing to a wide variety of media, stakeholder, influencer audiences, and voters
  • Experience writing op-eds, blog posts, and social media posts on tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of current political and media landscapes.

What might set you apart from other candidates?

  • Able to build, manage, and sustain relationships with media outlets throughout the state of Michigan to increase media coverage of client bond election campaigns
  • Familiar with graphic design programs and have an understanding and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A strategic thinker, self-directed, and have experience speaking to diverse audiences.

We might be a great match for each other if you are:

  • A self-starter with great time management skills who thrives in an environment with team-based decision making.
  • An individual who strives to learn and grow, is motivated by their team's success and works hard to ensure it.
  • Someone who enjoys trying new ideas and constantly improving.

What you might also like to know is that:

We're an employee-owned company. This means that 100% of the ownership at GMB is held by us as employees. Our creativity, skills, and expertise have a direct impact on our value and growth.
