We're looking for a Yard Goat (Yard Truck Operator) to join our team, where you'll play an essential role in keeping trailers moving safely and efficiently throughout our warehouse yard. Success in this role means ensuring trailers are positioned accurately, dock operations stay on schedule, and the yard remains organized to support smooth receiving and shipping operations.
This role is ideal for someone who is safety-focused, dependable, and comfortable operating heavy equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment. You'll thrive if you enjoy hands-on work, communicating with a team, and taking pride in keeping operations running smoothly.
Your Impact:
As a Yard Goat, you will:
- Safely operate yard trucks, terminal tractors, or shunt trucks to move, position, and stage trailers and containers throughout the facility yard.
- Spot trailers accurately at assigned dock doors while following yard management instructions and operational schedules.
- Perform required pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections, reporting maintenance needs, equipment damage, or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard by keeping traffic lanes clear, following designated trailer staging procedures, and adhering to safety requirements.
- Communicate with dock supervisors, dispatchers, and drivers to coordinate trailer movements, provide updates, and minimize operational delays.
- Maintain accurate trailer movement records and assist with trailer sealing, chocking, landing gear adjustments, and other yard-related tasks as needed.
What You Bring to the Table:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1–2 years of experience operating yard trucks, terminal tractors, or shunt trucks in a warehouse, distribution, or freight environment required.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain one based on facility requirements.
- Experience backing trailers into dock doors, coupling and uncoupling trailers, and safely navigating busy industrial yards.
- Strong understanding of yard safety practices, equipment inspections, and safe trailer handling procedures.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions and work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, or overtime as operational needs require.
