• TMMG is seeking an experienced Assistant Hull Manager to support construction of Multi-Mission Surface Combatant (MMSC) #1 at the shipyard. This individual will assist the shipyard’s program and hull management team with coordinating technical issues, managing documentation, tracking work items, verifying work readiness, and supporting shipboard execution and completion.
• The position requires an experienced shipbuilding professional who can work independently, follow issues through resolution, and coordinate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Scheduling, Quality, Testing, Purchasing, subcontractors, customer representatives, and the Navy.
• The Assistant Hull Manager will help ensure that technical questions receive timely responses, work items move through required approval and purchasing processes, and shipboard activities align with construction priorities. This person will also help identify constraints before work begins and verify that completed work has the inspections, testing, and documentation needed to support system turnover.
Key Responsibilities
1. Condition Found Report Coordination and Tracking
• Receive, distribute, log, organize, and maintain Condition Found Reports (CFRs) exchanged among the shipyard, subcontractors, vendors, and the customer.
• Maintain an accurate record of open reports, assigned owners, required responses, current status, and outstanding actions.
• Coordinate with Engineering and other responsible organizations to obtain technical responses and supporting information.
• Follow up on overdue responses and identify issues affecting construction, testing, or scheduled work.
• Ensure current responses and supporting documents are accessible to personnel executing the work.
• Provide routine status updates to shipyard program and hull management.
• Track each report through disposition and documented closure under shipyard procedures.
2. Technical Issue Resolution
• Coordinate technical resources to address emergent Condition Found Reports and troubleshoot shipboard system deficiencies during construction.
• Work across Engineering, Manufacturing, Testing, and subcontractor teams to define issues, identify responsible parties, and establish next steps.
• Participate in shipboard inspections and walkthroughs to understand field conditions and support resolution.
• Track corrective actions, required technical direction, and outstanding dependencies.
• Elevate unresolved issues that could delay installation, system completion, or testing.
• Coordinate implementation of approved technical direction and maintain records of resulting actions.
3. Work Item Development and Processing
• Support work items prepared using Appendix 4-E of Volume VII, Chapter 4, of the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), commonly called “4E work items.” These specifications define a particular scope of work in a standardized format.
• Track work items from initial development with Engineering through required internal and external reviews, approvals, and final contract placement by Purchasing.
• Organize and maintain work item packages, revisions, technical information, approval records, and related correspondence.
• Identify missing information, overdue reviews, and other issues preventing packages from advancing.
• Follow up with responsible personnel to keep packages moving and management informed.
• Maintain visibility of each work item’s status, next required action, responsible organization, and potential construction impact.
• Confirm that appropriate approved documentation is available to support execution.
4. Construction Schedule and Work Readiness
• Review upcoming construction activities with Planning, Scheduling, production leads, and subcontractors to verify that work can begin as scheduled.
• Check readiness of approved drawings, work instructions, materials, shipboard access, required approvals, and supporting resources.
• Confirm that prerequisite work is complete and that installation, inspection, and testing activities are properly sequenced.
• Maintain a list of constraints identifying responsible parties, required actions, and resolution dates.
• Identify work likely to miss planned start or completion dates and communicate potential impacts to hull management.
• Coordinate recovery actions and alternative work sequencing with responsible organizations when activities fall behind.
• Verify that resolved constraints and revised priorities are communicated to personnel performing the work.
5. Shipboard Work Coordination
• Track the shipboard execution status of approved 4E work items with shipyard personnel and subcontractors.
• Coordinate daily implementation activities among Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Testing, subcontractors, customer representatives, and the Navy.
• Help resolve conflicts involving work sequencing, access, overlapping activities, technical information, and competing priorities.
• Identify constraints preventing work from starting or progressing and coordinate their resolution.
• Monitor assigned work against agreed priorities and required completion dates.
• Communicate scope questions and proposed changes to appropriate shipyard decision-makers.
• Support coordination of installation, inspection, and testing activities to reduce avoidable delays and rework.
6. Completion Verification and Turnover Readiness
• Coordinate verification of completed work with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Testing, and subcontractors.
• Help confirm that required installations, inspections, tests, and supporting records are complete before work items are reported closed.
• Track outstanding deficiencies, incomplete work, and missing documentation through resolution.
• Support shipboard walkthroughs to compare reported completion status with actual field conditions.
• Coordinate readiness reviews for systems approaching testing or turnover and identify remaining actions.
• Maintain visibility of required inspection records, test results, approved changes, and other completion documentation.
• Report discrepancies between stated progress and verified completion to hull management.
• Support system turnover and vessel completion while preserving the approval and acceptance responsibilities of authorized personnel.
7. Status Reporting and Management Support
• Prepare accurate status reports on Condition Found Reports, work items, work readiness, shipboard progress, deficiencies, and unresolved issues.
• Report assigned work item status directly to customer and Navy representatives as directed by the shipyard.
• Verify reported progress with responsible personnel and, where appropriate, shipboard observations.
• Maintain action lists identifying owners, commitments, due dates, and closure status.
• Highlight decisions and support needed from shipyard management.
• Participate in coordination meetings and follow through on assigned actions.
• Provide TMMG management with concise updates on accomplishments, customer priorities, and issues affecting performance.

• Understanding of installation, inspection, testing, deficiency resolution, and system turnover processes.
• Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, specifications, work instructions, and technical correspondence sufficiently to coordinate work and recognize issues requiring engineering review.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation accuracy, revision status, and follow-through.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prepare reliable status reports and explain issues, impacts, and required actions.
• A motivated, proactive approach with the ability to work independently and elevate problems promptly.
