Lead with Purpose. Serve with Faith. Make a Lasting Impact.
Springs Rescue Mission is seeking an experienced, Christ-centered Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to provide strategic leadership, strengthen organizational operations, and advance our mission of transforming lives through the love of Christ.
We encourage applicants to submit a cover letter sharing their interest in the position, their passion for serving others, and what inspires them to be part of our Christ-centered mission. While a cover letter is not required, we welcome the opportunity to learn more about your heart for ministry and how your gifts and talents align with the mission of Springs Rescue Mission.
Applicants may upload a cover letter along with their resume during the application process.
The Mission
Springs Rescue Mission follows Jesus by mobilizing our community to help neighbors overcome homelessness, addiction, and poverty—restoring lives with hope, purpose, and dignity.
We operate a campus that includes emergency shelter, recovery, job training, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, and related enterprises. Nearly every major approach to this work happens here, side by side. We are a faith-rooted ministry, funded mostly by donors alongside some private and government grants, and we take both compassion and results seriously.
The Role
The Chief Administrative Officer is the Mission’s administrative integrator and a senior advisor to the President and CEO.
This leader is responsible for the financial, people, facilities, property, technology, compliance, and administrative systems that make the ministry possible. SRM is strengthening several of those functions. The CAO will work close to the work at first—building capable teams, reliable rhythms, and clear ownership—then lead through strong functional leaders as those systems mature.
The CAO stays close enough to the work to know the organization from the inside. This leader builds firsthand knowledge of SRM’s finances, people, facilities, property, and obligations—enough to have confidence in the numbers, the risks, and the people carrying them. From that knowledge, the CAO hires and develops qualified team members so the Mission has lasting capacity.
The CAO shares the executive responsibility to steward donor trust, protect the Mission’s financial integrity, and help the organization remain worthy of continued generosity.
This is an on-site role at a 24/7 campus. It is not a remote or maintenance-only administrative job.
What You Will Own
- Executive oversight of Finance, Human Resources, Facilities and Capital Projects, Property and Asset Management, Data and Business Systems, and Enterprise Compliance
- Translation of strategy into administrative priorities, owners, timelines, and measurable outcomes
- Operating rhythms, dashboards, and decision rights that keep work moving without sending routine issues to the CEO
- Executive oversight of the Controller and Finance team, including any fractional or outsourced CFO support engaged by the Mission
- Owner-level oversight of campus facilities, housing properties, capital projects, and related vendor and lender obligations
- Workforce systems that help leaders manage people well: clear expectations, real accountability, and healthy teams
- Data, technology, and business systems that leaders can actually use
- A working compliance calendar so every material obligation—audits, filings, lender and grant reports, insurance, contracts, and entity governance—has a named owner and a due date
- Constructive partnership with Program Operations and Advancement, without absorbing their work
- Donor-minded stewardship of money, reporting, and operations, and a constructive role in the executive team’s shared responsibility for revenue
Faith and Culture
The CAO will help carry and form the culture of Springs Rescue Mission. This ministry should feel like what we believe: people matter, words should be clear, work should be excellent, and faith belongs in the middle of ordinary decisions.
We need a leader who can build strong administrative systems and, in the same motion, strengthen trust. Staff, vendors, and directors will experience this person’s presence as part of the culture. We want that presence to be steady, honest, and human.
We want better controls and a healthier Mission, and we believe those go together. The work should be done with rigor, a spirit of service, and enough humanity that SRM never feels like a cold institution. Strong systems should help us keep our promises—to guests, staff, and donors—not distance us from them.
What Success Looks Like in Year One
- Administrative functions operate as a coordinated enterprise, not as disconnected departments
- Every material organizational obligation has a named owner and due date
- Insurance, loans, and facilities needs are understood, documented, and visible to leadership
- Areas of responsibility for housing and property—property management, facilities, finance, compliance, and resident services—are clearly defined
- SRM’s permanent supportive housing has its own accounting, has completed its audit, and reports monthly to the executive team, with a clear financial picture and documented path forward
- Leadership can project income and expenses monthly with the executive team
- A highly functional accounting team is in place, with reliable processes and a strong internal customer experience
- Directors know their department budgets and have real organizational financial awareness
- Required audits are completed on time, including the organizational audit and property or entity audits
- Routine administrative work no longer sits on the CEO’s desk
Who You Are
- A mature follower of Jesus who can affirm SRM’s Statement of Faith and lead in a manner consistent with our mission and culture
- At least 10 years of progressive leadership across multiple administrative or operating functions
- A builder, not only a maintainer. You have strengthened weak functions and developed leaders who can carry the work
- Willing and able to stay close to the work long enough to know the organization, then build team members who can carry it
- Financially literate in nonprofit realities: statements, budgets, cash, controls, audits, restricted funds, and capital planning
- Experienced in several of the following: finance, HR, facilities, property management, capital projects, technology, compliance, risk, contracts, or governance
- Preferred: regulated property, affordable housing, significant real estate, or complex contractual compliance
- Strongly preferred: complex nonprofit, human services, healthcare, housing, hospitality, faith-based, or 24/7 operations
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree, CPA, or equivalent advanced experience preferred
- You do not need to personally master every function in this portfolio. You do need the judgment, work ethic, and leadership to make each function strong.
This Role Is for Someone Who
- Wants their leadership to make the culture stronger, not merely the org chart cleaner
- Can hold a high standard and still treat people with dignity
- Tells the truth early, especially when the news is hard
- Builds teams that take ownership and speak directly
- Can walk into unfinished systems and create order without creating bureaucracy
- Can do the work and develop people who do the work
- Sees finance, people, property, and compliance as part of the ministry
- Treats donors as partners in the Mission and understands that every executive seat shares responsibility for trust and revenue
This role is unlikely to be a fit if you need a finished organization before you will decide, prefer a remote or portfolio-light administrative job, or want to professionalize the Mission by setting its faith and culture to the side.
